Press Release No. 477/22 NORTH EASTERN COUNCIL SECRETARIAT, SHILLONG NEC GOLDEN JUBILEE North Eastern Council was established by an Act of the Parliament in 1971. It was formally inaugurated on 7thNovember, 1972 at Shillong, and has completed 50 years in November 2022. During the 70th Plenary meeting at Guwahati in October 2022 which was held under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister and Chairman NEC, it was decided that this important milestone of the NEC would be celebrated in a befitting manner. Accordingly, the Golden Jubilee celebration of the NEC is being held in Shillong on the 18th December 2022 where an official meeting of the NEC as well as a public meeting has been planned. The internal meeting will be held at the State Convention Centre Auditorium while the public meeting will be at the Polo Grounds, Shillong. Both the events will be graced by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with all Members of the NEC, consisting of the Union Home Minister, DoNER Ministers, Governors and Chief Ministers of the NE states, Central Ministers belonging to the NE Region, local MPs and MLAs and nominated Members of the NEC in attendance. Besides, the state Chief Secretaries, selected Secretaries of Central Ministries, senior officers from the NE states and Heads of the iconic Institutions set up with support from the NEC have also been invited. For the public meeting, besides the local population, prominent citizens, achievers, representatives of Self Help Groups, Farmers Groups from all the eight NE states will also be in attendance. Presence of approximately 10,000 people is expected at the public meeting. During the day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate some important projects of the Region including Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, dedicate 4G towers of Meghalaya, inaugurate NEC projects and Meghalaya state projects and lay foundation stones for some projects. GOLDEN FOOTPRINTS, a commemorative volume chronicling NEC contribution towards the development of the North Eastern Region over the last fifty years will also be released during the Golden Jubilee event. The contents of this book have been gleaned from the Archives of the Council and from the official records of the eight member states of the Council besides capturing in colour the iconic infrastructure and development works supported by the NEC in the recent past. The Jubilee is expected to provide a new platform for the NEC to deliver even better in the days to come and to spearhead more development initiatives as has done effectively in the last five decades across the 8 NE states. |
Press Release No. 478/22 GOVERNOR ADDRESSES THE OFFICERS OF INDIAN ARMED FORCES The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) addressed the officers of the Indian Armed Forces at Eastern Air Command Headquarters, Upper Shillong, Meghalaya on 15th December 2022. The Governor emphasized on good Civil Military relations for facilitating development of the North East Region. He said that better bonhomie between the armed forces and civil population will instill a sense of security amongst the masses, particularly in view of the belligerent attitude of our neighbouring countries. The Governor said that the wheel of time is constantly on the march. Every passing day witnesses the global politico economic and military contexts becoming more and more involved, more and more complex and more and more intrusive. On account of these developments civil military relations are now undergoing a sea change. New challenges are widening the scope of civil military relations and therefore civil military relations are transforming in all configurations, viz., on land, in air, at sea and in space, he said. The Governor said that civil military relations in India suffered great setbacks as small countries around India which had got their freedom from the British underwent many military coups. However on 26 of May 2014 when Shri Narendra Modi ji became the Prime Minister of India, the civil military relations in our country entered a new phase. This marked the watershed in the history of civil military relations in India, the Governor said. The Governor stressed on good management in the Armed Forces for good Civil Military relations. He advised the Air Force and Military Officers to have five traits, i.e. observant eyes, perceptive mind, commitment, innovative action and perseverance and imbibe six attributes, which are transparency, accountability, probity, equal dispensation, self audit and mid course correction when, where and as needed. The Governor said that these five traits and six attributes are essential to become a good Armed Force leader. Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Air Command, Shillong, Air Marshal S.P. Dharkar, AVSM and officers from Headquarters Eastern Air Command, Headquarters 101 Area, Directorate General Assam Rifles, 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Assam Regimental Center and Umroi Cantonment attended the programme. |
