PASSING OUT PARADE OF NEPA

Shillong, December 17, 2012: The Meghalaya Governor Mr. R S Mooshahary reviewed the spectacular ceremonial parade of the 38th Passing Out Parade of North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA), at Barapani, Shillong on 17th December 2012. The basic course trainee officers consisted of 116 cadets of different rank from Dy SP, SI, ASI from the states of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram and Sikkim. Mr. A K Mathur, Director NEPA, administered the pledge for the cadets.

Mr. R S Mooshahary, the Chief Guest on the occasion congratulated the trainee officers and insisted that they maintain the same discipline which had transformed them from ordinary young man and woman to responsible police officers of the state. He also highlighted the role of police officers that they are meant to serve and protect the people and ensure that people are able to live in peace and harmony.

Mr. Mooshahary also advised them not to abuse the statutory power but used them for which they are codified. Moreover, he spoke about proper discharge e of duties which is expected from the trainees as many people in India have a critical assessment about policemen. He further reiterated that they should take care not to harass innocent people, not to discriminate people, never let the criminal go free, and not to indulge in corruption since it is the biggest drawback of the country.

These trainee officers had commenced their one year training in the Academy from 30th January 2012. These officers were trained on well researched module approved by Bureau of Police Research and Development, Government of India. Apart from imparting adequate training input in regular subjects like police Science, Legal Studies, Social Studies, Forensic Sciences, Human Behaviour, they were also given special modules on VIP Security, Economic Offences, handling of explosives, Disaster Management, Counter Insurgency and counter terrorism, departmental enquiry, jungle camp, rock climbing and yoga.

With a view to optimize their operational efficiency, they were given excellent exposure to latest weapons and trained on counter insurgency operations. They were also sent on Bharat Darshan Study Tour to different states of the country to experience the functioning of police in other states.

Apart from these various societies were formed and programmes were organized to imbibe soft skills, build confidence, team spirit and a publication titled Jigyasa is also being published with articles contributed by the trainees.

Trophies and medals were also presented by the chief guest to 17 cadets for their excellence in different fields of their training of which Dy SP F Lalbiakzauba bagged the All Round Best Dy SP Probationer and SI Anupa Gurung bagged the All Round Best Cadet Sub-Inspector. Out of 116 cadets, 25 cadets belong to the state of Mizoram, 29 from Sikkim, 22 from Tripura, 01 from Meghalaya, 01 from Arunachal Pradesh, 2 from Manipur and 36 from Nagaland.
