H D R LYNGDOH LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF UMTHLONG MAWDUN NONGPATHAW ROAD AND BRIDGE

Shillong, December 18, 2012: “Diengiei area, endowed with the beauty of nature coupled with development activities will one day be a favourite tourist destination”, said the Meghalaya Minister of PWD (R), Home (Police), etc., Mr. H D R Lyngdoh while unveiling the foundation stone for construction of Mawlai Umthlong Mawdun Nongpathaw Road (15.50 + 2.00 Km) including one major bridge and RCC culverts at Nongpathaw, East Khasi Hills District today, the 18th December, 2012. The historic day was also graced by the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary and MLA of Mawlai, Mr. F S Cajee as Guest of Honour, Mr. L Blah, MDC, Mr. K Khyriem, Nominated MDC, the Secretary PWD (R&B), Mr. S B Chyrmang, Chief Engineer NH, PWD (R), Mr. C W Momin, Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Pa’iem Latho Manik Syiem, officials of the PWD, Headmen and the public of Diengiei area.

According to Mr. Chyrmang, the whole project has been sanctioned under the Central Reserve Fund (CRF) by the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Government of India at an estimated cost of Rs. 10.69 crores and the construction work will commence after the New Year and is expected to be completed in a stipulated time of 2 ½ years. The road and bridge will link Nongpathaw and the whole Diengiei area with Mawlai Umthlong and Shillong.

Asserting that road is the backbone of development, Mr. H D R Lyngdoh said that the hardship and suffering of the people of the area will soon be relieved with the construction of the road where they will able to travel to and from Shillong at a reasonable time instead of the 45 kms that they travel all the time. He expressed his gratitude to the officials of the department of PWD for the struggle and hard work that they have undertaken to see the dream of this project come true to fulfil the aspirations of thousands of residents of the area. This project, once completed, will be a great blessing to the people of the area where their economy can be raised to a great extent and can bring an all round development to the area, he said. He called upon the people to lend their hand of cooperation and see that the project runs smoothly without any hindrance so that it can be completed in a stipulated time.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Mr. F S Cajee, Mr. L Blah, Mr. K Khyriem, Mr. S B Chyrmang,Pa’iem Latho Manik Syiem, the President and General Secretary of Diengiei Dorbar Area and Headmen of different localities of the area. Mr. C W Momin delivered the welcome address while Mr. P Khiewtam, Superintending Engineer PWD (R), Eastern Shillong Circle offered the vote of thanks.
