Press Release No. 526/14 UNION MINISTER OF STATE INAUGURATES GOLDEN JUBILEE BUILDING OF SYNOD COLLEGE Shillong, December 19, 2014: The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Kiren Rijiju today inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Building of the Synod College, Shillong in the presence of the Meghalaya Minister, Health & Family Welfare, etc., Mr. A L Hek, Pastors, Principal, teachers and students. The building was constructed to commemorate 50 years of the college which will be celebrated in 2015. As the educational hub of the North East, Shillong has always been considered a jewel in the crown of the region, said Mr. Rijiju in his speech and said that as a North Easterner, he desires to see that every part of North East grow in every aspect of life. He said that the objective of an institution is to produce vibrant and astute citizens who can be great assets to the society adding that no youth should remain unfulfilled in their quest for their dreams. He underlined the need to create a favorable syllabus in institutions to ensure that youth do not miss opportunities and avenues to pursue. Lamenting that youth of the region prefer to remain in their own frontier, Mr. Rijiju said that there is a need to create vibrancy in the region so as to enable them to move forward and explore possibilities suited to their abilities. Therefore, he urged the students to uphold their human values while pursuing their education and that they should develop the confidence and strength and equipped themselves to take on any challenges. With regard to the adversities faced by the people of the region in some parts of India, Mr. Rijiju encouraged the North East people not to be demoralized by these incidents, but they should hold their heads high and not let these hardships affect their careers or image. He ensured that the Central Government is taken all precautionary measures for the safety and security of the people of the region. He also informed that certain norms have been formulated which would be submitted to the Home Ministry, Government of India, to ensure that all States should look into the wellbeing of the North East students, to include the chapter about North Eastern Region in the CBSE syllabus and to recruit North East people in the Delhi Police Force and other defence forces as well. Mr. Hek, in his speech, said that the college has been growing by leaps and bounds in these 50 years and has been able to produced intellects and great personalities who have contributed a great deal to the State and the country. He expressed hoped that the college will continue to impart quality education for the benefit of the students. |
Press Release No. 527/14 UNION MINISTER OF STATE FOR HOME AFFAIRS VISITED BORDER OUT POST DAWKI Shillong, December 19, 2014: Shri Kiren Rijiju Union Minister of State for Home Affairs today visited the border outpost of Border Security Force at Dawki, West Jaintia Hills District to inspect and review the security along the Indo- Bangladesh International Border. During the visit, the Union Minister of State also held a meeting at the border out post Dawki with officials of Border Security Force and the District Administration of West Jaintia Hills to discuss various issues pertaining to security measures along the international border and assess the progress of border fencing and floodlighting works. The meeting was attended by the officials from the Border Security Force headed by Shri Mahendra Singh, DIG, PSO, Meghalaya Frontier, Shri N. D. Bahuguna, Sector DIG, Jowai, Shri S. K. Singh, DIG, G and PRO, BSF along with the officials from the District Administration headed by Shri D. M.Wahlang, Incharge Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, Shri A.Sunn, DIGP. Eastern Range, Shri H. G. Lyngdoh, SP, West Jaintia Hills, Smti J. Kharpuri, EAC incharge SDO (C) Amlarem and representative from MeECL Later the Minister also interacted with Jawans guarding the international border at a brief function held at the border out post. |
