Press Release No. 1233/17 CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES NEW SCHOOL BUILDING OF POMLUM SECONDARY SCHOOL Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today inaugurated the new school building of Pomlum Secondary School under the Human Capital Development programme funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB). Minister, Urban Affairs etc and local MLA, R V Lyngdoh was also present during the inauguration as the Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma expressing happiness at having completed the building before the stipulated timeline hoped that the school will be a premiere and much sought after institution in the area in the years to come. “It is pleasure in being able to respond to the people particularly the most vulnerable sections of the society,” he said. He hoped that the school with the new building will help render better education to the people of Mylliem block. The Chief Minister also informed that Mylliem block before it was restructured was the biggest block in Meghalaya. “The government has initiated lots of programmes but because of the big size of some of the blocks in the state implementing those programmes was really difficult,” he added. He further informed that with the creation of new blocks better focus and undivided attention can be given by the government to all areas. Dr Sangma also said that the Human Capital Development programme is aimed at improving secondary education and vocational training in Meghalaya. “The programme will not only improve and build infrastructures but will upgrade teaching and learning in secondary and higher secondary schools, improve technical and vocational education, upscale the skill of teachers by training and provide digital learning aids to students. He also added that providing vocational and technical education is important to be imparted to students he informed that 45,000 youth will be given skill development training and education to empower them to be skilled work force thus enhancing their employability in various sectors besides generating sustainable livelihood opportunities. During the occasion the government notification for Mylliem C & RD was read out by BDO, Mylliem C & RD Block, P T Passah. The Chief Minister also unveiled the plaque for the newly re-organised Mylliem C & RD Block during the function. Among others who spoke during the inauguration were Minister and Local MLA, R V Lyngdoh, the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and the Secretary of the School Managing Committee. |
Press Release No. 1234/17 CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES MAWPHLANG COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today inaugurated Mawphlang Community Health Centre (CHC) in the presence of Minister, Urban Affairs, R V Lyngdoh, MLA, Mawphlang, Kennedy Khyriem and MDC, Mawphlang Diengiei Constituency and Myntri in Charge, L Blah at Mawphlang. Speaking to the gathering, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma expressing happiness at having the CHC even though the Foundation Stone for it was laid 17 years ago said that the important facility for the people remained elusive for a long time. “The long wait has culminated in creation of this most crucial facility for the people and it gives me joy to dedicate it to the people of Mawphlang,” he said. He also informed that even the most developed nations are still grappling with the challenge of providing health care facilities to its people and Meghalaya notwithstanding the challenges in health sector has focused on this important sector. “As in other states of the country the CHCs and hospitals remain under utilized because of lack of doctors and specialists. Non utilization of assets created with investment of public money is wrong”, said the Chief Minister. He also informed that with the establishment of two medical colleges in the state the gap between demand and supply of doctors, nurses and specialists will be addressed. Dr Sangma further said that the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is an innovative and inclusive scheme and urged all to take advantage of it. He also urged the nurses and medical fraternity of Mawphlang CHC to serve the people with love, compassion and dedication and do justice to the aspirations of the people.
