CHEQUE DISTRIBUTION FOR BEAUTIFICATION OF TURA TOWN

Member of the Parliament, Lok Sabha Tura Parliamentary Constituency, Agatha K Sangma graced the Pre-Christmas celebration and Distribution of Cheques to Development Committees at DRDA Conference Hall, Tura on 21st December, 2023. The cheques were distributed to all the localities of Tura Town in order to start the implementation works for the Locality Beautification Project in view of the upcoming Meghalaya Games 2024 to be held in Tura in January 2024.

Recalling about the beautification of the town by the people during 2019 for the A'chik Baptist Dalgipa Krima conference, Agatha Sangma said that the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was inspired by the cooperation and support of the people and desires to start this Beautification Project for the ensuing Meghalaya Games 2024 to be held in January 2024 in Tura. She further mentioned about the changes and development that are taking place in and around the town from street lights and streets going to every nook and corner of the town and various other developmental activities and also urged everyone to cooperate in this project.

Further, with the onset of Christmas season, she expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani, Superintendent of Police, WGH, A T Sangma, all the Officers of the district and everyone for their sincere dedication and hard work rendered for the benefit of the people. Moreover, she mentioned that the Government can do and bring in more funds when the implementation part happens on the side of the people. Urging people to maintain a Clean and Green Tura, she said that as the festive season is approaching, the waste also increases but requested everyone to minimize waste and practice waste segregation and help Tura Municipal Board to keep the town clean.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board, Rikse R Marak presented a detail report of the Beautification Project of 2021 which was initiated and channelized through Department of Tourism in Tura, Jowai and Shillong in Phase 1 and about 78 localities participated in the project. This project was started in December 2021. Seeking support and cooperation of the people to make the town look beautiful and welcoming for people attending the Meghalaya Games, she said that about four thousand plus athletes and officials will be coming to attend the Meghalaya Games 2024.

West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board, J D Sangma, Project Director, DRDA, WGH, Dolrich B G Momin were among others who spoke during the occasion.

Earlier, during the programme, the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries distributed the cheques to the President and Secretaries of all Locality Development Committees. A sum of Rs One lakh each has been given to 48 Area Development Committees and Rs Fifty lakhs each to 47 Area Development Committees while Rs Ten lakhs has been given to CEO, TMB for beautification of ten junctions namely, Ringrey junction, Gandrak Dare Junction, Chandmary junction, Hawakhana junction, Araimile junction, Noksik Gittim (Proper Chandmary) junction, Proper Chitoktak junction, Walbakgre junction, Akimbri junction and William Point junction.
