Press Release No. 806/05 WORLD DISABLED DAY OBSERVED Along with the rest of the world, World Disabled Day was also observed on December 03,2005 at Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre at Umniuh village which was organized by the District Social Welfare, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh The District Social Welfare Officer, Ri Bhoi District, Mrs.G.B.Marak while addressing the function lauded Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre for its untiring and dedicated service rendered towards the welfare and well being of the physically handicapped. She informed that all persons with disability have been guaranteed equal rights as other normal persons. She urged the parents in particular and the society in general not to neglect or ignore persons with disabilities but to show and give them love and attention..She urged the handicapped persons not to lose hope inspite of their abnormality as they are can also prove themselves to be equally useful to the society and other competitions were also held on the day for the handicapped persons |
Press Release No. 807/05 PUBLIC MEETING HELD AT SOHPDOK VILLAGE A public meeting was held on December 02, 2005 at Sohpdok village, Ri Bhoi District, organized by the Sohpdok Sports Club and which was attended by the people from the village and its adjoining areas. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Mr.P.W.Muktieh who is also the local MLA of the area Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Muktieh expressed his pleasure to be associated with the people of the area and to be acquainted with the various problems faced by them in their day to day life. With respect to the developmental programmes in the area, he called for the cooperation of the headmen and the people so that various developmental programmes of the government could be implemented in the area. He urged the headmen to approach the concerned departments of the district with regard to the schemes and developmental projects in their respective villages Later on the day Mr.Muktieh attended a final football match played between Mawthei SC and Sohpdok SC in which the former beat the latter by one goal |
Press Release No. 808/05 ATHLETIC MEET HELD AT MAWHATI A two-day Athletic Meet organized by the office of the District Sports Officer, Ri Bhoi District, at Mawhati under the Open Rural Sports Meet Programme,2005 ended on December 03,2005. Youths from different villages actively participated in the meet According to the District Sports Officer, Mr.P.M.Marbaniang, the main objective for organizing the programme was to popularize and promote sports activities among the youths in the rural areas and also to select youths who excel in various sports activities who would be trained to participate in bigger events of the district and state level. He informed that the meet is the first of its kind in the area and the same would be organized in other parts of the district |

Press Release No. 810/05 67Th NATIONAL JUNIOR TABLE TENNIS KICK START The 67th National Junior Table Tennis championship, organized by the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association (MTTA) started today at U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium, Shillong. Meghalaya Governor, Mr. M M Jacob grace the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of Mrs. M B Mehta, India’s Table Tennis icon, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, Dr. D D Lapang, Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the Chairman of the MTTA, Mr. R G Lyngdoh, president of the MTTA and other senior officials of the MTTA In his speech, Mr. Jacob lauded the MTTA for its effort in organizing the tournament. Adding that India is trying to bring up more skilled sportspersons in the field of various sports events who would bring laurels to the country, he said that the State and the Central Government is spending more time and energy to tap the talented players for the honour and pride of the State and the country as a whole Dr. Lapang in his brief speech urged upon the players to do their best for the pride and honour of the State and the country as a whole, adding that the players should always aim high for a bright future Earlier, the Governor laid the wreath to the statue of the Khasi freedom fighter, U Tirot Sing and lights the inaugural lamp as a mark to open the tournament Altogether 37 contingents from different parts of the country is taking part in this mega event. The highlight of the day includes traditional dance from the different tribes of Meghalaya. Others who spoke on the occasion included Mrs. M B Mehta and Mr. R G Lyngdoh It may be mentioned that the tournament will last for seven days and will culminate on December 11, 2005 |
