CM INAUGURATES KHLIEHRIAT BANKING SUB TREASURY

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today inaugurated the newly created Khliehriat Sub Treasury at Khliehriat, Jaintia Hills District in the presence of the CEM, JHADC, Mr H Nongtdu, Chief Secretary, Mr Ranjan Chatterjee, Addl Chief Secretary, Mr W M S Pariat and the Principal Secretary, Finance Department, Mr B K Deb Verma and the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr F R Kharkongor. The meeting was presided over by the Minister for Mining & Geology, Mr Nehlang Lyngdoh who is also the local MLA.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang said that the inauguration of the new sub treasury is a great achievement to Khliehriat Sub Division as it is the long felt demand of the people of Khliehriat and its adjoining areas. He informed that in the State of Meghalaya there are 14 Treasuries out of which 6 are sub treasuries and out of the 6 sub treasuries, 2 sub treasuries at Mairang and Khliehriat are banking sub treasuries. He said that conversion of other treasuries as banking treasuries is under active consideration of the Government.

Dr Lapang said that the Government is making all efforts to provide best possible services to the people of the State and to keep a sound financial system. He said that on the lifeline of financial health, treasuries are important components of the State’s financial system. He said that to implement the commitment of the Government in maintaining transparency in the financial administration of the State, all treasuries have been computerized and very soon they will be Online, he added.

Dr Lapang said that Khliehriat sub treasury is a boon to the people including Government offices, Schools Businessmen and especially the Pensioners in the Sub Division as they will not have to go all the way to Jowai for any financial transactions involving the treasury.

Chief Secretary, Mr Ranjan Chatterjee in his speech said that the banking sub treasury will tremendously benefit the people of Khliehriat and will enable them to save money on their travel cost to Jowai. He said that this is one of the efforts made by the Government to bring administration closer to the people.

AMLAREM POLICE OUTPOST UPGRADED TO POLICE STATION

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today inaugurated the full fledged Amlarem Police Station which was upgraded from a Police Outpost at Amlarem, Jaintia Hills District in the presence of the local MLA, Mr R L Tariang, Chief Secretary, Mr Ranjan Chatterjee, Addl Chief Secretary, Mr W M S Pariat, DGP, Mr B K Dey Sawian, Addl DGP Mr A K Mathur, Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr F R Kharkongor, Superintendent of Police, Jaintia Hills District, Mr N Kharmalki and the President of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong War Jaintia, Mr K Pohshna.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang said that the upgradation of the police outpost to a police station is an effort of the State Government to strengthen the functioning of the Police and also to bring administration closer to the people. The presence of the Police Station will ease the problems of the people in seeking police assistance in all respects, he added. He also said that the police station in the area will look into the security of the people and to control and eradicate illegal activities as the area lies in the International Border with Bangladesh. He said that since Amlarem Sub Division also has a Magisterial Court, the Police Station will assist in the trial of various criminal cases in the Sub Division.

He said that the people should extend their cooperation with the police in their efforts to maintain law and order in the area. He also stressed on the need that the police personnel should maintain discipline while on duty and ensures that the people feel protected and secured in their presence.

Dr Lapang also urges upon the people to extend their full cooperation with the police personnel so that they can function effectively and serve the people better.
