Immediate response and participation of the public is required to save our streets, roadways, footpaths, public transportations, parking lots, open spaces, schools, colleges, hospitals, public offices, market areas etc. Therefore, the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, hereby strongly advised on systematic collection, segregation, disposal and overall management of waste to extend from each household and cover all public and private amenities across the City. The problem concerning littering and indiscriminate dumping of waste is persisting at such an alarming rate that as a counter – measure, offenders will be arrested u/s 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 as a counter this menace plaguing our society. Thereafter, a fine of Rs. 5000/- onwards will be imposed upon conviction by a Court of Law. Detected cases can be reported to the nearest Police Station or Outpost. The Hon’ble High Court of Meghalaya is also taking a keen interest in matters relating to the cleanliness of Shillong. As such, various agencies of Government and Non-Government including the general public are mandated to be involved with the noble objective of restoring the City to its former glory.
