The Additional Director General of Police (CID), Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that a lot of telephonic calls from both mobile as well as landline numbers are being received by general public from fraudsters impersonating as Bank/Insurance representatives, seeking details of bank accounts/ATM/DEBIT/CREDIT Card details like card number, CVV number, secret 4 digit pin number, date of expiry and even One Time Password (OTP) received in the mobile phones thereby duping innocent people of their hard earned money. General public are hereby requested not to share these details with anyone as Banks, Insurance Company, etc. never asks for such details from its customers. It is also informed that, if anyone finds/notices the misuse of Cyber Space especially if they notice Child Pornography, obscene material/content on Social Media or other platforms, the same may be reported through Online Reporting Portal: www.cybercrime.gov.in which has been launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The same can also be informed to the nearest Police Station or Cyber Assistance Cell (CID) Meghalaya, Shillong. EVM AND VVPAT AWARENESS PROGRAMME FOR MEMBERS OF JUDICIARY

EVM & VVPAT awareness programme and live product demo for members of the judicial system organized by the Election Department, Government of Meghalaya was held here today at Hotel Polo Towers which was attended by representatives and members of the judicial fraternity. Speaking to the gathering Chief Election Officer, Meghalaya, F R Kharkongor said that this was the second awareness programme that is being held to create awareness and clear doubts and apprehensions about the EVMs and VVPATs and also added that similar awareness programmes would be held for all stakeholders in the election machinery. He further stated that the usage of EVMs and VVPATs are a part and parcel of the election process and that courts have also endorsed the use of these machines. The CEO also informed that there is a difference between malfunctioning and tempering and tempering should not be equated with the malfunctioning of the EVMs and VVPATs. Stating the objective of having the awareness programme for the judiciary he said that the judiciary may face election petitions in the near future and the programme is to give the judiciary personnel firsthand knowledge and experience on the EVMs and VVPATs.

In his Opening Remarks, Secretary, Law, W Khyllep said that EVMs and VVPATs are a requirement for a free, fair and transparent poll which also ensures the confidence of the electorate. He added that having these systems in place is a sign of moving forward towards a better democracy. Earlier, the CEO also released the EVM & VVPAT Booklet and the EVM & VVPAT Song CD. A presentation on EVM & VVPAT was also made by K G Nongrum, Sr System Engineer during the occasion. Among others who spoke during the awareness programme were Additional CEO, R P Marak and H Nongrum, President, District Bar Association.
