AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON RTI AT MAWLONG NONGTLUH

A one day Awareness Campaign on Right to Information was organized by the office District Public Relations Officer, Nongpoh in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District and the State Information Commission at Mawlong Nongtluh village, Ri Bhoi District on January 31, 2008. Meghalaya Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. G P Wahlang grace the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of the president of the Maitshaphrang Movement, Mr. M N Syiem, who attended the function as the a Resource Person. The Campaign was attended by the local headmen of the area, various government department and members of the Maitshaphrang Movement.

In his speech, Mr. Wahlang lauded the effort of the organizers for organizing the Campaign for the benefit of the people of the area. He further said that RTI is a national law binding all government officials with the purpose of creating responsibility towards the public, he said that the aim of RTI is to create transparency and accountability.

Mr. M N Syiem spoke on the topic on aim and procedure of RTI The meeting was presided by Mr. D Mawphniang, headman, Mawlong Nongtluh.
