Press Release No. 62/11 PWD MINISTER INSPECTS JOWAI-BADARPUR ROAD Shillong, February 11, 2011: PWD Minister, HDR Lyngdoh inspected the Jowai-Badarpur Road along the NH-44 to assess the dilapidated condition of the road from Ladrymbai up to Malidhar (Malidor) on Friday. The Chief Engineer, PWD NH Division, S. Chyrmang, Executive Engineer, Jowai Central Division, Sainia Kyndiah, Contractor, Thomas Nongtdu besides other PWD officials accompanied the Minister. Having received several complaints from the people of Jaintia Hills particularly from various NGOs about the bad road condition, the Minister decided to visit Jaintia hills for spot inspection and to assess the road condition. He also informed that the road from Jowai to Malidor was earlier manage and maintain by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) and the same was handed over to the State PWD in 2010, “I am happy to see that the road condition has improved except in some stretch and the PWD along with the contractor is taking their effort to repair all potholes in different stretch of the highway” The concrete bridge at Malidor which was delay for years was now under construction. The construction of the bridge was still under the supervision of the BRO. The BRO chief engineer, KK Razdan and the contractor who also join the inspection team at Malidor assured the PWD minister that the bridge will be completed by May this year. |
