MEGHALAYA CANCER CONCLAVE 2024 HELD

The Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation (ANTF) today organised the Meghalaya Cancer Conclave 2024 on the theme ‘Close the Care Gap’ at the Cosmos Hall, Hotel Courtyard Marriott, Shillong. Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare graced the programme as the Chief Guest.

In her address, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasized the urgency of action, urging stakeholders to move beyond discussions and implement effective measures. She highlighted the importance of ensuring accessibility to healthcare through initiatives like the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and emphasized the significance of prevention and early detection in combating cancer.

Shri. Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, highlighted the need for comprehensive solutions to address the challenges in cancer care. He emphasized the role of the conclave in facilitating exchanges of ideas and experiences.

Dr. Anisha Mawlong, HOD, Radiation Oncology Department, Civil Hospital Shillong, provided insights into Meghalaya's journey in tackling cancer. Poignant testimonials were also shared by cancer survivors, served as powerful reminders of the human aspect of cancer care, highlighting the resilience, courage, and determination of individuals confronting the disease.

During the event, the Health Minister distributed Mobile Endoscopy Units as part of the Meghalaya Mission Cancer Prevention & Early Detection and also launched a promotional video of the First Cancer Care Project.

Keynote speakers at the conclave included Shri Joram Beda, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Prof (Dr) Nalin Mehta, Director, NEIGRIHMS, and Dr. K. Ganapathy, among others.

Discussions at the conclave encompassed various aspects of cancer care including early diagnosis, access to quality treatment, epidemiology, technology-enabled screening, supportive care, research, media's role, and survivorship. The Meghalaya Cancer Conclave 2024 signifies a significant stride towards building a resilient and compassionate ecosystem for cancer care in the region. It underscores the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge in bridging the care gap and providing hope to those affected by cancer.

UNION MINISTER OF STATE FOR EDUCATION ADDRESSES ROZGAR MELA IN SHILLONG

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi today distributed more than 1 lakh appointment letters to newly inducted recruits via video conferencing. He also laid the foundation stone of Phase I of the Integrated Complex “Karmayogi Bhavan” in New Delhi. This complex will promote collaboration and synergy among various pillars of Mission Karmayogi.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that appointment letters are being handed out to more than 1 lakh recruits and congratulated them and their families on the occasion. He underlined that the campaign to provide job opportunities to the youth in the Government of India is continuing in full swing. Pointing out that the long time spent between the job notification and handing out appointment letters led to an increase in bribery, the Prime Minister stated that the present government has made the entire process transparent while also completing the recruitment process under the stipulated time. The Prime Minister informed that the present government in the last 10 years has handed out jobs to the youth 1.5 times more than the previous governments. The Prime Minister also touched upon laying the foundation stone of Phase I of the Integrated Complex Karmayogi Bhavan in New Delhi and said that it will strengthen the government's initiative towards capacity building.

Union Minister of State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar joined the Rozgar Mela in Shillong wherein he distributed appointment letters to the new recruits following the Prime Minister’s address. In Shillong appointment certificates were handed over to 48 candidates belonging to North Eastern Hill University, North Eastern Police Academy, Employees Provident Fund Organisation, NEEPCO, NEIGRIHMS, and Department of Posts. The Union Minister, while expressing his delight for the successful organisation of the Rozgar Mela, said, “Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has launched the “Rozgar Mela- recruitment drive for 10 lakh personnel. A significant step has been taken to provide job opportunities for the youth and ensure the welfare of citizens”.

Highlighting that the Rozgar Mela is a significant addition to the various initiatives of the central government, Dr Sarkar said that the mission mode recruitment drive is expected to result in the filling up of 10 lakh jobs and it is also expected to lead to the creation of additional employment in private and public sectors. The Minister underscoring the effectiveness of Karmayogi Prarambh module launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, said that the module includes a code of conduct for Government servants, workplace ethics & integrity, and Govt HR policies and rules that will help them to get acclimatized to the policies and transition smoothly into the new roles. “I would also like to add that, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) had launched a Mobile Application of iGOT Karmayogi Portal, which would make it easy to access the Karmayogi Portal’, the Minister added.

Speaking about the various reforms been brought about in the government sector, Dr Sarkar said that apart from making recruitments at a massive and unprecedented scale, there is also a special focus on granting timely promotions to all the officers working in various government organisations. As a result, promotions are now happening across all departments and with timely promotions at all levels, more vacancies are likely to be created at entry-level posts, he added.

Extending his heartiest congratulations to the newly recruits, the Minister said, “I am sure that the new appointees will be involved in building New India with innovative ideas, cutting-edge technology, and public participation. I would also like to add that all these new appointees will work as a motivation for others to work hard and stay committed to the goal”. He also added, “Our government is committed to creating various systems, processes, and policies aimed at developing a self-reliant India. I would also like to thank all the department officials present here”.

Ms Natasha Manners from Meghalaya while interacting with the Minister expressed her gratitude for Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and expressed her hope that the region will get more opportunities and assistance from the Central Government in the days to come. She urged other youths from Meghalaya to apply for the Central Government jobs also. Ms Manners got her appointment in NEIGRIHMS.
