MEGHALAYA HOLDS RECORD OF HAVING THE LOWEST LEPROSY RATE

Joining hands in the global effort to eradicate Leprosy, India has achieved a major milestone, wherein the prevalence rate has come down to 0.95 cases per 10,000 as on December 31, 2005.

In the national scenario, Meghalaya holds the record for having the lowest prevalence rate in the country. In the year 1997-98, the number of cases registered in the State was 505 and the prevalence rate stood at 4.01 per 10,000 population. Over the years, this figure has come down to 30 with the current standing prevalence rate (PR) of 0.11 per 10,000 as on November 2005.

This target has been achieved through concentrated and coordinated efforts of health personnel under the aegis of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, voluntary organization and public participation. All leprosy patients were treated with Multi Drug Therapy (MDT) launch by the Central Government, which emphasizes in early detection of the disease in order to avoid permanent nerve damage and deformities and survey of the population and creating awareness of the signs and cure for leprosy. For the purpose, District Leprosy Societies, whose functions is to cover MDT treatment with supportive medicines to all leprosy patients, have also been constituted in all seven Districts of the State.

REVISED RATES OF TAXI FARES

The Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has informed that following are the new revised rates of Taxi fare against the new places/destinations which were not included in the previous notification.

The new revised rate of Taxi fares from Iewduh to Sadew (13 Kms) is Rs. 86.00 at Rs. 22.00 per head, from Iewduh to Laitjem (15 Kms) is Rs. 98.00 at Rs. 25.00 per head, from Iewduh to Mawkriah (16 Kms) is Rs. 104.00 at Rs. 26.00 per head, from Iewduh to Mawngap (21 Kms) is Rs. 134.00 at Rs. 34.00 per head, from Iewduh to Mawphlang (25 Kms) is Rs. 158.00 at Rs. 40.00 per head.

The rate from Iewduh to Smit (16 Kms) the rate is Rs. 104.00 at Rs. 26.00 per head, from Iewduh to Pomlakrai (17 Kms) is Rs. 110.00 at Rs. 28.00 per head, from Iewduh to Mawpynthih (21 Kms) is Rs. 134.00 at Rs. 36.00 per head and from Iewduh to Nongkrem (17 Kms) is Rs. 110.00 at Rs. 28.00 per head.

From Iewduh to Laitkor (12 Kms), the rate is Rs. 80.00 at Rs. 20.00 per head, from Iewduh to Lad Nongkrem (13 Kms) is Rs. 86.00 at Rs. 22.00 per head, from Iewduh to Umphyrnai (15 Kms) is Rs. 98.00 at Rs. 25.00 per head, from Iewduh to Mawlyngad (19 Kms) is Rs. 122.00 at Rs. 31.00 per head and from Iewduh to Sohryngkham (24 kms) is Rs. 152.00 at Rs. 38.00 per head.
