Press Release No. 104/13 ECI ORDER REGARDING USE OF EPIC Shillong, February 14, 2013: The Election Commission of India has directed all electors in all 60 Assembly Constituencies in Meghalaya to produce their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for establishing their identity before casting their votes for the General Election. Electors who fail to produce EPIC shall have to produce the Authenticated Photo Voter Slip issued by the election machinery for identification in the polling stations. This directive has been issued to prevent impersonation of electors and to make the right of genuine electors to vote more effective. Further, if an elector produces an EPIC which has been issued by the Electoral Registration Officer of another Assembly Constituency, such cards shall also be taken into account provided the name of that elector finds place in the electoral roll pertaining to the polling station where the elector has turned up for voting. Minor discrepancies in the entries in the EPIC should be ignored and the elector allowed to vote provided the identity of the elector can be established by means of the EPIC. |
Press Release No. 105/13 EXIT POLL, OPINION POLLS AND POLL SURVEY BANNED IN WHJ FROM 14 FEB TO 24 FEB, 2013 Shillong, February 14, 2013: In pursuance of Section 126A of the Representatiion of People Act, 951 and in compliance with the directive of the Election Commission of India, the District Election Officer of West Jaintia Hills has prohibited the conduct of Exit Polls, Opinion Poll or any other Poll Survey in the District from 7.00Am of 14.02.2013 till 5.30pm of 24.02.2013. He has also prohibits the display of any election matters by means of the Print or Electronic Media including the exit poll in connection with the General Election to the State Legislative Assembly. |
Press Release No. 106/13 EPIC FOR IDENTIFICATION ON THE DAY OF POLLING Shillong, February 14, 2013: As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District has advised voters to carry their Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or Authenticated Photo Voters Slip for identification on the day of polling. |
Press Release No. 107/13 DC DIRECTS GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES TO REFRAIN FROM TAKING PART IN ELECTION CANVASSING Shillong, February 14, 2013: In pursuance of instruction received from the Director of Higher & Technical Education, all teachers and other employees of the Government and Government aided Institutions are prohibited from taking part directly or indirectly in canvassing etc. in the forthcoming Assembly election of the State of Meghalaya, 2013. Such canvassing tantamount to violation of rules of conduct of a Government/Government Aided employee. In view of the above, the District Election Officer of West Jaintia Hills, P.S Dkhar, has therefore directed all Government / Government Aided Institutions to refrain from taking part in any Election by canvassing or otherwise while in service and any person found to have violated the relevant rules of conduct will be dealt seriously. |

Press Release No. 110/13 WHOLEMEAL ATTA DISTRIBUTED Shillong, February 14, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District has informed the public consumers of the District that Whole-meal Atta for the month of December, 2012 is being distributed through the Fair Price Shops at the scale of 1128 grams per head at the rate of Rs. 7.80 per kg.
