Press Release No. 44/10 RAIN ROCK FESTIVAL BEGINS Shillong, February 18, 2010: The Rain Rock Festival organized by the Rain Rock Sohra Festival Organizing Committee was inaugurated by the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr. Charles Pyngrope on February 17, 2010 at the Sa-i-Mika Park, Sohra. Speaking at a well attended function, Mr. Pyngrope lauded the efforts of the organizing committee for organizing such a festival which would project the pristine beauty of Cherrapunjee to the outside world as well as to promote tourism in this area. He stressed upon the need for preserving nature so as to make Sohra a major tourist destination. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. Donkupar Roy, Chairman Meghalaya State Planning Board, Mr. Conrad Sangma, MLA, Dr. A Jyrwa, Meghalaya AIDS Control Society and Dr. B. D. R. Tiwari, SDO(C), Sohra. The other highlights of the day were cycling, marathon, cultural programmes, health camps, exhibition, flower show and film shows. |
