Press Release No. 52/10 LOK ADALAT HELD AT TURA Shillong, 23 February 2010: A Lok Adalat was held on February 20, 2010 in the Deputy Commissioner’s Court building premises at Tura. The Chairman of the GHADC, Mr. L R Ch.Momin inaugurated the programme. In his address as the Chief Guest, Mr. Ch. Momin urged the gathering to use the Lok Adalat as an effective dispute settlement mechanism. Members of the Bar Association also shared their thoughts on the occasion. A total of 19 courts were arranged and total of 349 cases belongings to various categories case like Motor Accident Claims Tribunal(MACT) (125 Cr.PC)107 and 145 Cr. PC and compoundable offences under IPC were put up for settlement through the mediation of conciliators in the Lok Adalat. A total of 64 (sixty four) cases were amicably steeled. Interim Relief in two MACT cases to the tune of Rs 25, 000.00 each were ordered and Rs.14,65 lakhs was awarded as compensation in 12 MACT cases settled and disposed off during the Lok Adalat. |
