MEGHALAYA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY TO MEET ON MARCH 17, 06

The Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. M. M. Jacob has summoned the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to meet at 10:00AM on Friday, March 17, 2006 in the temporary Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, Shillong.

PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN ON CONSUMERS' AWARENESS BEGINS

A private Cultural Troupe deputed by the Song & Drama Division, Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Guwahati Regional Centre kicked off its Publicity Campaign on Consumers’ Awareness in West Garo Hills staging their programme package in front of an impressive crowd at the Super Marker, Tura on February 23, 2006.

The Cultural Troupe, M/s Ma-Pratima Silpi Samaj, Guwahati, led by its contingent in-charge, Mr. Siba Prasad Bora, presented short plays and songs, and also gave talks highlighting the need for awareness among consumers. Officials of the Supply Department, Member of Meghalaya Chamber of Commerce, Tura and other NGOs were also present during the campaign. The troupe will also be presenting similar programmes in other market places, Sub-Divisions and Block Headquarters under the District.

This cultural troupe along with the other troupes were given training at the two day Orientation-cum-Workshop on Consumers’ Awareness organized by the Song & Drama Division in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs (Consumer Protection Unit), New Delhi, in coordination with Assam Food & Civil Supplies Department in Guwahati on February 16 and 17, 2006.

The troupes, after getting trained by resource persons and experts, are deputed to various States and Districts to present their programmes. In West Garo Hills, the campaign is being carried out in collaboration with the District Administration, Tura and other line Departments.
