ERI RESHOM KRISHIMELA HELD AT NONGPOH

Shillong, 24th February, 2011: The Regional Eri Research Station, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Mendipathar, East Garo Hills organized the Eri Reshom Krishimela at Science Hall, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District wherein the Deputy Commissioner of the District, Mr. M Kharmujai was the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kharmujai lauded the organizers for their untiring efforts in organizing the programme to create awareness about the modern scientific methods of Ericulture among the sericulture farmers in different areas where Ericulture has been practiced. He said that this programme would help the people of Ri Bhoi to get the opportunity to exchange their ideas, place their problems to the technical experts. He also notified that the Krishimela is like a platform where the farmers from different villages can exchange their experiences, needs, problems and prospects on Ericulture among themselves and also with the technical experts.

Mr. Kharmujai also said that Sericulture in Ri Bhoi District has been a traditional livelihood of the rural people since time immemorial and farmers still take up this activity as a part time job for domestic consumption only, whereas the demand for these products like eri cocoons, pupae, yarn is increasing. He therefore, urged the farmers to take this opportunity to cooperate with the government and also to work hard in this field for their own benefits.

The programme included the exhibition highlighting important elements of ericulture.

24TH DISTRICT LEVEL INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION

Shillong, 24th February, 2011: A three day District Level Industrial and PMEGP Exhibition, organised by the Office of the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, was inaugurated on February 23, 2011 at Tympang Club Playground, Jowai. A total of twenty one stalls have been set up by different department, Self Help Group and NGOs.

Mr. T. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, in his speech as the Chief Guest lauded the initiative taken by the DIC Department in organising this exhibition where entrepreneurs meet together, and expressed hoped that this exhibition will benefit the entrepreneurs and be able to upgrade their talent by interacting with other participants. This showcase of skill should not end only in the district, but should be taken into great heights by exchanging ideas and marketing with other states even with and our neighbouring country Bangladesh, he added.

The occasion was chaired by the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jaintia Hills District Jowai.

LOK ADALAT TO BE ORGANISED

Shillong, 24th February, 2011: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District has informed that the DC’s office in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Service Agency (MSLSA) will organize the first “Permanent Lok Adalat” (Peoples’ Court) in the office of the DC, Ri Bhoi on 12th March, 2011 from 10:00 AM.

He also informed that the permanent/continuous Lok Adalat will sit on every 2nd Saturday of every month during the current year 2010-2011 in Court Room No. 1 in order to dispose off/settle pending cases and provide immediate relief to all litigants in a manner mutually accepted to them.

Hence, interested parties/claims, etc., who are willing to settle the disputes/motor accident claims, etc are invited to avail this opportunity for settlement of their cases expeditiously. Concerned litigants are requested to respond positively to individual notices issued by different courts and to report at the above venue on the said date and time.

NATIONAL OLD AGE PENSION SCHEME DISBURSED

Shillong, 24th February, 2011: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) at the rate of Rs. 250/- only per month for the period of one month with effect from 1st July, 2010 to 31st July, 2010 has been disbursed.

Beneficiaries residing within the urban areas are requested to contact the Nazir, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Shillong, Room No. 211 during office hours. Detailed information can be obtained from the Development Branch, Room No. 314 of the DC’s office, Shillong. Beneficiaries from the rural areas are requested to contact the office of their respective BDOs.

SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME AT MULIEH AND MOWTYRSHIAH B

Shillong, February 24, 2011: The office of the Assistant Director of Information & Public Relations, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in collaboration with the Field Publicity Office, Jowai organised a Special Interactive Programme on 22.02.2011 and 23.02.2011 at Mulieh and Mowtyrshiah-B respectively on the theme ‘Impart knowledge for them to prosper’. In the programme at Mulieh the office of Block Development Officer, Laskein Development Block, office of PHE, District Industries Centre, and Fisheries, Jowai are taking part in imparting knowledge to the school students and people of Mulieh about the various schemes and activities of their respective departments. Dr M Tyngkan, BDO, Laskein Development Block was the Chief Guest on the occasion at Mulieh. The officers participating in the interactive programme at Mulieh are Shri I Z Wreang, Manager, DIC, Jowai, Shri W Ymbok, J E, PHE, Shri R W Shylla, Fisheries Demonstrator and Shri Markham Suchiang from office of BDO, Laskein.

During the interactive programme at Mowtyrshiah-B on February 23rd, 2011, the officers taking part were Shri Tamlin Diengdoh, Block Mission Coordinator, SSA, Laskein Block, Shri Markham Suchiang, office of BDO, Laskein and Dr Lamare, office of DMHO, Jowai.

Shri B Kharsamai, Assistant Director of Information & Public Relation, Jowai was the chairman in both the programme and the welcome address was delivered by Shri J L Kynjing, Field Publicity officer, Jowai. Shri P Dhar, Headman offered the vote of thanks at Mulieh while Shri Libianta Suchiang, Secretary at Mowtyrshiah-B.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME HELD AT SHNONGPDENG VILLAGE

Shillong, 24th February, 2011: The Awareness Programme on convergence of Government Programmes was organized by the Village Managing Committee, Shnongpdeng, in collaboration with Office of Deputy Commissioner (Planning), Jaintia Hills District and MRDS, Jowai.

The Deputy Commissioner of Jaintia Hills District, Shri T. Dkhar, was the Chief Guest of the Programme and the Additional Deputy Commissioner /Project Director, DRDA, Jaintia Hills District, Shri B. Mawlong, was the Guest of Honour. The Programme was presided over by Mr.F. Lamin, from Shnongpdeng village.

Other Officials who attended the Programme were the Chief Executive Officer MKVIB, EAC of Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Superintendent of Fisheries Jowai, Range Officer-Soil and Water Conservation Range (Territorial) Amlarem, Assistant Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Sub-Divisional Agriculture officer Amlarem, Executive engineer Water Resources Jaintia Hills Jowai, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer Amlarem, Functional Manager D.I.C. Jowai, Sub-Divisional officer (PHE), ADO Amlarem, Asistant Director Horiculture Officer, Block development Officer Amlarem, Project Manager MRDS Jaintia Hills, Finance and Accounts Officer MRDS.Jaintia Hills, among others.

Shnongpdeng is a village which is just about 45 KMs From Jowai and 80 KMs from Shillong and is a nice- little known village in Meghalaya which falls under the jurisdiction of Darrang Sardarship of Jaintia Hills District. This beautiful village houses just about fifty households with a population of not more than two hundred near the Umngot river. Cleanliness, peace, tranquility & simple living people beautify the entire village which is 2nd to Mawlynnong of East Khasi Hills District. Betel nut trees, boulders, Jack fruit Trees, the majestic hills, crystal clear river and sweet gaggling birds of different kind befriend the residents of this small village. In this very village cleanliness is the order of the day, whoever sets foot in this village cannot but admire this place whose assets are serenity and well behaved and decent speaking people,.

In this Village the Residents want no boundary Walls to separate their houses but they want a retaining wall /dyke to tame the dreaded Umngot River which from time to time had tormented and threatened their Village, Being the Victim of Flood during 1972 and 1988.

The various representatives of Line Departments spoke on the schemes provided by both Central and State Governments in their respective fields. There was also a mention of convergence of various Schemes of the Line Departments for common projects. A memorandum was also presented to the Deputy Commissioner by a representative of the Dorbar Shnong.

The Deputy Commissioner assured and reaffirmed that various line departments will work hand in hand in order to uplift this place from a simple village to a futuristic tourist hub. There was also a brief interaction where queries were raised by the villagers and were replied to accordingly by the respective Officials.
