HOLIDAY DECLARED

The Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration (A) Department has informed that all State Government offices and educational institutions located in the 9-Umroi (ST) Assembly Constituency and those governed by NI Act shall be closed on February 26, 2009 being the date of poll, to enable the voters to exercise their franchise in connection with the Bye-Election to the above constituency.

OVERLOADING OF COAL LADEN TRUCKS PROHIBITED

In order to avoid obstruction of the road in West Khasi Hills District, the Deputy Commissioner has informed that the District Administration will conduct frequent mobile court on overloaded coal laden trucks plying in the District. The Deputy Commissioner has therefore urged upon all truck owners as well as truck drivers not to carry more than the prescribed limit.

He also informed that if anyone is found violating the Section 144 CrPC imposed by the District Magistrate and also Section 194 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the excess load shall be unloaded and disposed off on the spot through public auction as a Government property.

KABIR PURASKAR 2009

The Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs has called for nomination for the "Kabir Puraskar", a National Award for honouring persons who show physical/moral courage in saving life and property of members of another community, caste and ethnic group.

The award is given in three Grades-Grade I, Grade II and Grade III, carrying a cash amount of Rs.2,00,000/- Rs. 1,00,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- respectively.

Intending individuals from East Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government for the Award are required to send their nominations to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before the 15th April 2009.
