Press Release No. 100/11 RATE OF DAP REVISED Shillong, February 25, 2011: The Director of Agriculture, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the price of DAP for sale to the consumers of the State/Government/Department/Farmers has been revised with effect from 1st February, 2011. The price for Government Departments is Rs. 13,145/- MT whereas the price for farmers has been fixed at Rs. 11,958/- MT. |
Press Release No. 95/11 SEMINAR CUM WORKSHOP AND EXPO ON HORTICULTURAL CROPS AT SOHRA Shillong, February 25, 2011: The Directorate of Horticulture, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer (S.D.A.O), Sohra organized a seminar-cum-workshop and Expo on horticultural crops on the theme “Canopy Management in Citrus & sustainable Vegetable Cultivation” on February 24, 2011 at Saitsohpen Community Hall, Sohra, wherein Dr. R. B. Dympep, Managing Director, Small Scale Farmers Agricultural Business Consortium (S.S.F.A.C) was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dympep said that the seminar aimed at providing farmers with technical skills to promote agricultural production and cultivation in the upliftment of their socio-economic conditions. He said that surface water pumps, shallow tube wells and check dams have been constructed through Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojna (R.K.V.Y) schemes for the benefit of farmers and hoped that the Horticultural Mission for North East Himalayan States (H.M.N.E.H.S) schemes would benefit farmers in many ways. He therefore hoped that farmers would gain much from this workshop. He also said that farmers would be selected through this workshop for training outside the state. He therefore encouraged farmers and urged them to work hard for their own betterment. Later, he handed over the certificates to the participants. Mr. R.Rymbai, Sordar Saitsohpen, Sohra also spoke on the occasion. Mr.C. D. Kharkongor, District Horticulture Officer chaired the function. Earlier, Smt. A.B. Lyngdoh,S. D.A.O, Sohra delivered the welcome address while Mr. E. Shadap, H.D.O,Shella Bholaganj offered the vote of thanks. |
Press Release No. 96/11 DISTRIBUTION AND DEMONSTRATION OF SMART CARDS AT NARWAN VILLAGE SAIPUNG BLOCK Shillong, February 25, 2011: Leveraging on Biometric Smart Cards, under Electronic Benefit Transfer, the Project Director, DRDA, Jaintia Hills District, Mr. B.Mawlong formally distributed the Smart Cards on February 25, 2011 at Narwan Village, under Saipung C&RD Block, to the MGNREGA job-card holders, in presence of the BDO, Dr. W. Sympli, Axis Bank Jowai Branch Head & Asst. VP, Mr. Rishi Rai, among others. Beneficiaries will have access to Banking Services including disbursements under Government sponsored schemes virtually at their doorstep, since they will be enabled by the Bank’s Business Correspondent/facilitator using a point of Transaction machine, which is a hand-held device, thus obviating the need for the beneficiaries to travel long distances to the Bank Branch. This pilot project is being launched for the first time in Saipung Block for Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya. |

LANONG INAUGURATES HOME OF THE CLOUDS AT NEW DELHI Shillong, February 25, 2011: A two-day Festival ‘Home of the Clouds’ was inaugurated today, February 25, 2011 by the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. B M Lanong at Dilli Haat, Patimpura, New Delhi. The festival was organized by the Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya. Also present at the inaugural function were Parliamentary Secretary Dr. P Khongjee, Mr. R V Lyngdoh, MLA, H Marwein, Principal Secretary Arts & Culture and Mrs. D Syiem, Director Arts & Culture The Festival include exhibition-cum-sale of products of Meghalaya including handicrafts, art exhibition, local cuisine, cultural and musical evening. Participating in the festival are Department of Information & Public Relations, Commerce & Industries, Agriculture and Horticulture, Sericulture & Weaving. |
Press Release No. 98/11 PLYING OF OVERLOADED TRUCKS OVER BRIDGE PROHIBITED Shillong, February 25, 2011: The Executive Magistrate, Mairang Civil Sub-Division has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting plying of overloaded trucks carrying coal/timber through Bridge 57/1 at River Khri under Mairang Civil Sub-Division by restricting to a maximum loading capacity of 9 tonnes capacity only. This Order has been issued in view of information received that some coal laden/timber laden trucks are plying through MRA, road over Bridge 57/1 at River Khri under Mairang Civil Sub-Division and are carrying load beyond the permissible limit. Such activities may cause damage to the Bridge as the present BUG Bridge at River Khri is structurally weak and may not be able to withstand the stress overcome from the constant plying of over loaded vehicles. This Order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. |
Press Release No. 99/11 GOVERNOR DISTRIBUTES CERTIFICATES AND AWARDS TO SCOUTS AND GUIDES Shillong, February 25, 2011: The Bharat Scouts and Guides of different schools from Meghalaya received the Rajya Puraskar Certificate and Laxmi Mazumdar Award from the Meghalaya Governor, Mr. R S Mooshahary at Raj Bhavan, Shillong today, the 25th February, 2011. Rajya Puraskar Award or Governor’s Award are given to those who contribute and complete the prescribed format laid down by the Bharat Scouts and Guides between the age of 13 to 18 years. Altogether, 40 Scouts and 40 Guides from 27 different schools of Meghalaya received the certificates and awards. In his speech, the Governor expressed his gratitude to the organizers for organizing such a function and also congratulated all the recipients of the Awards. Reminiscing on his school life where he was also a member of Scouts & Guides, the Governor said that there are certain rules and principles while joining as Scouts & Guides and we need such kind of principle to set up in our mind in order to guide our society, he added. He further states that Education is not only classroom activity but it also means to help in developing mind, body and spirit and therefore, we must learn to walk together and learn together so that we can achieved concerning issues relating to our community, added Mr. Mooshahary. Mr. Mooshahary also said that every individual should have the ideal spirit of dedication, commitment and contributing to the community and urged upon the members of the Scouts and Guides to pursue others to have the same ideals. “Healthy living and happy living should not only confined in the mind of an individual instead we should try to translate it into action, so that we can be able to make contribution in the process of national building” said the Governor. Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr. W M S Pariat who is also the President of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides, Mr. P S Thangkhiew, Vice President, Mr. W R Marbaniang, W Khyllep, Director of Higher & Technical Education and officials of the Bharat Scouts and Guides were among others who were present on the day. |
