RECRUITMENT OF CONSTABLES IN ITBP

Applications are invited from Indian male citizens for filling up of the posts of constables (General Duty) in the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force. For candidates residing in Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland, the recruitment will be held in Shillong at a date to be notified later.

Candidates should be between 18 and 23 years of age with 5 years relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC and have passed Matriculation from a recognized Board/ University/ National Open School (National Institute of Open School).

RALLY FOR SELECTION OF ARCHERY BOYS IN ARMY

The Army Boys Sports Club Company of 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Happy Valley, will conduct a rally for screening of boys for selection of archery boys in Army from March 4-10, 2007 at 58 GTC, Happy Valley. Boys should be between 11 and 16 ½ years and must pass Class-VI in English with knowledge of Hindi. Besides intensive coaching in Archery by the SAI coaches, selected candidates will also be provided academic education free of cost by the Government of India from Class-VII to Class-XII. On completion of Class-X, the selected boys will be enrolled with HQ EME Centre.

Interested candidates may attend the rally venue along with original certificates of educational qualification, birth certificate, kit for participation in the screening, certificate of participation in the games at different levels and six copies latest passport size photographs. INTEGRATED HANDLOOM TRAINING PROGRAMME AT UMDEM

Chairman Meghalaya Economic Development Council (MEDC) and local MLA, Dr. D. D. Lapang inaugurated the 2 months Integrated Handloom Training Programme in Weaving at Umdem, Ri Bhoi District on February 27, 2007. The programme is being conducted by the Seng Kynthei Pahamsyiem Self Help Group (SHG), Diwen and sponsored by the Development Commissioner, Government of India, New Delhi through the Weavers Service, Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that the Seng Kynthei, Pahamsyiem SHG, Diwen is the only Training Centre in the area having 6 Flying Shuttle Looms, 3 Jacquard Machines and around 10 Spinning Machines. It has been conducting training on weaving from time to time for trainees coming from different parts of the state.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. Lapang expressed his happiness to associate himself in the programme adding that it has provided him an opportunity to know about the subject of weaving and handloom industry. Recalled the dream of the father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi who has foresighted that weaving and spinning could be an opportunity for an Indian citizen, earning their livelihood, he said that the industry has wide scope opened for the people of the area, district and the state as a whole. He appreciated the initiative taken by the organisation for setting up the Training Centre which would provide great benefit to the people to develop their skill in producing the products well demanded in the markets and creating a credit for the organisation and the state itself.

District Handloom Officer, Nongpoh, Mr. I. E. Diengdoh, District Sericulture Officer, Nongpoh, Mr. T. Lyngdoh, Branch Manager, Apex Bank, Nongpoh, Mr. K. Basaiawmoit and Sub-registrar, Cooperative Society were others who delivered speech on the scope of the handloom and weaving industry and aiding facilities for the SHGs.
