JUSTICE T VAIPHEI ASSUMES CHARGE AS CHAIRPERSON OF MHRC

The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which was established in July 2016 now became the full-fledged Commission with Justice T. Vaiphei, Retired Chief Justice of Tripura High Court and the Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission assuming charge today, the 7th February, 2020 as the Chairperson of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in presence of the Acting Chairperson Shri. P J P Hanaman, Smti. Baffyndalyne Giri, the Hon’ble Member (Judicial), the officials and staff of the Commission.

Justice T. Vaiphei was born on 1st March, 1956. He graduated in 1976 and passed his LLB in 1979 from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He enrolled in the Bar Council of Assam in 1980 and in 1999 he was appointed as the Additional Advocate General of Mizoram. He was elevated as Additional Judge of Guwahati High Court in 2003. Justice T Vaiphei was appointed as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on 21st September, 2016. After his retirement in 2018 he was appointed as the Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission.

ELECTORAL ROLLS PUBLISHED

The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills, has informed that the list of amendments to the final Photo Electoral Rolls with respect to the Assembly Constituencies of 46-Phulbari (GEN), 47-Rajabala (GEN), 48-Selsella (ST), 50-North Tura (ST), 51-South Tura (ST), 52-Rangsakona (ST), 56-Gambegre (ST) and 57-Dalu (ST) have been published with reference to 01-01-2020 as the qualifying date and in accordance with Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. The Electoral Rolls along with the said list of additions are available for inspection at the District Election Office, West Garo Hills District.

GENERAL NOTICE

The Joint Director of Health Services (SS), Civil Hospital, Shillong has informed that one male patient, name and caste unknown, about 50 years of age, C/o Police Bazar, Khyndai Lad, Shillong was admitted in the Male Medical Ward-I, Bed No. 29 of Civil Hospital, Shillong on 5.2.2020 at 8:41 AM. The patient expired on 5.2.2020 at 7:45 PM. All concerned relatives, etc, are hereby requested to collect the dead body from the morgue of the hospital immediately or within a period of three days failing which the dead body will be send for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.

STATE LEVEL CONFERENCE ON CENSUS OF INDIA 2021

The State Level Conference on Census of India 2021 (Houselisting & Housing Census Operations and Updation of NPR) was held today at the conference room of the Main Secretariat, Shillong. The state level conference organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya and GAD (B), State Nodal Department for Census, was attended by Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma.

During his address the Chief Minister while reiterating the importance of one of the largest administrative and statistical exercise in the world, carried out every 10 years, emphasised on the need for proper activation, sensitisation and training of all tiers of the government functionaries involved in the exercise to achieve accurate results. ‘Given past experiences we have seen that there is gap in the execution at the grassroot level. Hence it is critical to ensure that the enumerators, supervisors and field level functionaries are sensitised on the importance of their work’, he said.

In his address, Chief Secretary, Shri M.S. Rao said that the quality of the data collected during the census is extremely important and over the years the process of data collection has been refined. ‘At present with the implementation of the digital mode of census it will not only speed it up but also improve the quality as well’, he added. He also said that the census is the basis for the economic and social planning. ‘It is crucial for the whole exercise to be done correctly and properly to get reliable and good quality data for the State’, he added.

The Census of India 2021 will implement mobile app based solution for data collection. The census will be divided into two phases. The first phase will include Houselisting and Housing census operations and updation of NPR while the second phase is kept for population enumeration. During the inaugural session a brief overview of Census 2021 was presented by J. Beda, Director (Census Operations Meghalaya), Govt. of India.
