NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2024

The State Council of Science Technology and Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya in collaboration with the Shillong Science Centre and the Science Department of Shillong College today observed the National Science Day 2024 under the theme ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’ at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. Shri Rakkam A Sangma, Education Minister attended the programme as Chief Guest, Shri Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary & Developmental Commissioner as Guest of Honor along with Shri Gunanka D. B, Joint Secretary, Planning Department & Member Secretary, SCSTE, Meghalaya and others.

Addressing the gathering Shri Rakkam A Sangma said that it is great to see the enthusiasm of educators and students for education and advancement of knowledge in science and technology. The initiatives of the government and contributions of Indian Scientists indeed play a crucial role in motivating students and advancing technology. Keeping up with the latest technologies and having a global standard are key aspects of learning and innovation, he added.

The minister urged the students to not only learn but also apply scientific concepts in their daily lives to make learning more engaging and impactful. He said that supporting initiatives that make learning more enjoyable and meaningful, especially in science and mathematics can go a long way in nurturing future innovators and problem solvers. Sangma further encouraged the students to pursue their interests and passion in science and mathematics with dedication and perseverance which can contribute to the advancement of knowledge and society as a whole. He also informed that the government is committed in supporting initiatives that enhance science and technology education.

During the programme, the Education Minister launched the Knight’s Gambit: A New Era of Chess Education, Meghalaya STAR 30: Guiding Aspirations for NEET/JEE exams, PULSE (Promoting Understanding and Learning in Science Education), Tech Tutor Meghalaya: Exploring Science and Mathematics in Virtual Classroom.

Meritorious students who scored highest marks in Science Technology and Mathematics in the Secondary and Higher Secondary MBOSE Examinations 2022-2023 were also felicitated by the Chief Guest.
