TEAMS ON TOES ROUND THE CLOCK TO ENSURE FREE FAIR POLLS IN NGH

Shillong, February 8, 2013: For the purpose of conducting the Assembly elections in the three constituencies of North Garo Hills district in a free and fair manner, Assistant Expenditure Observers have been appointed to monitor the election expenditure by the candidates and various teams, namely, Video Surveillance Teams, Video Viewing Team, Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams have already been activated and are working round the clock to detect any distribution of cash, liquor, illegal distribution of gifts etc. This was informed by the Assistant Returning Officer & Officer incharge, Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell, North Garo Hills, Mr. A.C. Marak.

The District Election Office has appointed Branch Manager, UBI Mendipathar, Mr. Maniram Swargiary, Branch Manager,SBI, Resubelpara, Mr. Basudeb Paul and Branch Manager, SBI Mendipathar, Mr. M.C. Lahkar as Assistant Expenditure Observers for 38- Mendipathar, 39-Resubelpara and 40-Bajengdoba ST constituencies respectively.

The district-level Media Certification & Monitoring Committee had also been constituted recently with the District Election Officer as the Chairman and EAC, Resubelpara, Superintendent of Police, Resubelpara and SDPRO, Resubelpara as members to check any violation of the model code of conduct. Besides daily screening of newspapers, the committee has also been provided with a TV set and a CD player and is accommodated in the office of the Excise Department, Resubelpara together with the Video Viewing Team.

The DEO has also appointed three Accounting Teams for each of the three Assembly segments to function under the Assistant Expenditure Observers with the overall supervision of the Election Expenditure Observer.

Meanwhile, all the contesting candidates or their authorized agents for the respective constituencies have been asked to submit their expenditure registers, first on February 13, then on February 18 and finally on February 21 at 3.00 pm to their respective Returning Officers without fail.

CENTRAL OBSERVERS FOR SOUTH WEST GARO HILLS

Shillong, February 8, 2013: The Central observers for Assembly election in South West Garo Hills have arrived and are camping in Ampati Circuit House. The General Observer, Gautam Ghosh, IAS, will meet the public on every working day from 10:30AM to 11:30 AM in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ampati and may be contacted at 03651-261212 and 8415897295.

PLYING OF HEAVY LOADED COMMERCIAL VEHICLES PROHIBITED

Shillong, February 8, 2013: In view of the dilapidated condition of the two existing semi permanent timber bridges (SPT) at 14th and 15th Km of the Mawmaram Nongthliew Mawmih Mawlyndep road which may collapse at any time due to frequent and daily plying of heavy overload trucks, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting heavy loaded commercial vehicles carrying weight of more than 9 tonnes from plying on the said bridges.

This Order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

NOMINATIONS FOR KABIR PURASKAR INVITED

Shillong, February 8, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Government of India will confer the Kabir Puraskar for honouring the persons who show physical/moral courage in saving life and property of members of another community, caste or ethnic group. The awards is given in three grades carrying a cash amount of Rs. 2, 00,000/-, Rs. 1, 00,000/- and Rs. 50,000/- respectively along with a citation.

Intending individuals from the District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government of the award are to send their nominations to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong latest by April 15, 2013.

CELLULAR PHONE IN POLLING STATIONS NOT PERMITTED

Shillong. 8th February, 2013: The District Election Officer of West Jaintia Hills District has informed that the Election Commissioner of India has issued an instruction/ directions in the matter pertaining to Prevention of use of Cellular Phone inside Polling stations. In this regard the DEO has banned the use of cellular phones by all Polling agents, Candidates or the Election Agent of candidate inside the polling station, likewise the electors are also not allowed to carry any cellular phone inside the polling station. The polling Agents are also not allowed to leave the polling station neither allowed substituting themselves by their relieving agents after 2 Pm.

He however informed that the Presiding Officers, Commission’s Observer, Sector Officers, Micro Static Observers or other Officers specially authorized by the Returning Officer are permitted to carry a cellular phone inside the polling station for emergency official use only.
