Press Release No. 141/17 MAWNGAP POLICE STATION INAUGURATED BY CHIEF MINISTER Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today inaugurated Mawngap Police Station in the presence of H D R Lyngdoh, Minister, Home (Police), Transport etc and Kennedy C Khyriem, Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism & Local MLA. Addressing the gathering during his Inaugural Speech, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma expressed joy of being a part of the inauguration to dedicate the police station to the service of the people. He said that laws exist for the good of the society and the police are the custodians of the law to insulate the people from law breakers. He added that government with its various developmental programmes is committed to create an enabling environment of safe and secure society thereby ensuring that every citizen feels a sense of security and well being. He urged all to come together to achieve this objective. The Chief Minister also said that the police organization shoulders multi task responsibilities and policing require preparedness to acclimatize to different challenges therefore the government has drawn up plans to strengthen the police organization that is crucial for development he added. “Criminals get emboldened in the absence of law enforcing agencies therefore there is a need to create a realization of existence of law,” he said. He also stressed on the need to create a strong deterrence to crime and lawlessness that would in itself create a self regulating society. “Creation of police stations, civil sub divisions, C & RD Blocks and other establishments will have positive outcomes in a much more comprehensive manner,” he added. It may be mentioned here that the Mawngap Police Station have been upgraded to a police station from Mawngap police outpost. The newly inaugurated police station has been bifurcated from Laban Police Station and will cater to Sohiong, Mawphlang and parts of Mylliem. Earlier, Commissioner and Secretary, Home (Police), E P Kharbih read out the government notification and later handed it over to the Officer in Charge, Mawngap Police Station. Minister, Home, H D R Lyngdoh, Parliamentary Secretary and Local MLA, Kennedy C Khyriem, Local MDC & Lyngdoh of Mawphlang, L Blah, DGP, Meghalaya, Shillong, Dr S B Singh and Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, M Kharkrang also spoke on the occasion. |
