MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAMME HELD AT SOHRA

Shillong, March 15, 2013: The office of the Sub-Registrar of Cooperative Society, Sohra has organized a one day motivational programme on the theme “Cooperative movement in the area through Co-operative Society” on Wednesday last at Saitsohpen community hall, Sohra where the Sub-Divisional Officer (C ),Sohra, Shri.C.V.D.Diengdoh was the Chief Guest and Shri.R.Wahlang,E.A.C, Sohra as Guest of Honour.

The programme was sponsored by the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Diengdoh lauded the efforts of the department for organizing such a meaningful programme with a view to provide training to the people to be self sufficient and be enterprise in whatever they do. He also emphasized upon the need of expansion and strengthening of cooperative societies in sectors where there is lack of development in respective villages. Transportation, Tourism, Sanitation etc. are sectors that needed to be form as cooperative societies, he added. He further stated that this area has potentialities that needs to be tapped and explored in order to enhance and promotes small business entrepreneurs to benefit people at the micro level. He urged upon people to avail the benefits offered through Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Programme which focus on rural economy in sectors like aquaculture, tourism, apiculture etc. to uplift the economy of the people of the area .

Shri.R.Wahlang, E.A.C,Sohra and Smt.J.Kharsohnoh,Assistant Registrar, East Khasi Hills ,Shillong also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Smt.K.Syiem,Sub-Registrar,Cooperative Society, Sohra Sub-Division delivered the welcome address while Shri.A.Wahlang, Junior Cooperative Officer, Sohra offered the vote of thanks.

CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY OBSERVED AT NONGSTOIN

Shillong, March 15, 2013: Together with the rest of the country, the World Consumer Right Day was observed at Trysem Hall, Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District on March 15th 2013. Mr M A Challam, EAC was the chief guest at the function and highlighted on the Consumer Act, 1986.

It may be mentioned that World Consumer Day is being observed all over the country in order to generate public awareness on the rights and privileges of a buyer while spreading the message of business ethic.

The function was attended by Mr. P D Sangma, ADM, West Khasi hills, Inspector Supply, Sub-Inspector Supply, all the staff of the supply department, headman and students from various schools.

ANGANWADI WORKERS AND HELPERS FELICITATED

Shillong, March 15, 2013: In recognition of the outstanding performance of the Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi District, on March 15, 2013, the Department of Social Welfare organized the Distribution of State Level Award 2010-2011 and 2011-12 and District Incentive Award, 2011-12 at the Anganwadi Training Centre (AWTC), Shillong. Citation and cash award to the recipients was distributed by the Director of Social Welfare, Meghalaya, Mr. H M Shangpliang.

The recipients of the State Level Award 2010-11 for Anganwadi Workers are Battimai Syiem of Madan Iingsyiem Anganwadi Centre, Mylliem ICDS Project and Swilinda Thangkhiew of Wahsyngon Anganwadi Centre, Jirang ICDS Project. The State Level Award 2011-12 for Anganwadi Workers goes to Aimon Dkhar of Laittyra Anganwadi Centre, Shella Bholaganj ICDS Project and Boisani D Sangma of Pilangkatta Anganwadi Centre, Umling ICDS Project.

The Anganwadi workers who received the District Incentive Award 2011-12 included Phiarmai Kharsohnoh of Mawlai Mawroh I Anganwadi Centre, Mylliem ICDS Project, Bidaris Shabong of Wahnongkseh Anganwadi Centre, Mawphlang ICDS Project, Synsharhun Khongthaw of Mawlyndun Anganwadi Centre, Pynursla ICDS Project and Plinda Sun of Umbir Anganwadi Centre, Umsning ICDS Project. The Anganwadi Helpers who bagged the District Incentive Award 2011-12 are Wartrodis Kharumnuid of Mawutieng Anganwadi Centre, Mawryngkneng ICDS Project, Pynbhalang Suting of Thynroit ‘B’ Anganwadi Centre, Mawkynrew ICDS Project, Biolin Phanbuh of Jingthang U Bot Anganwadi Centre, Shella Bholaganj ICDS Project and B Lyngdoh of Umsong Anganwadi Centre, Jirang ICDS Project.

WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY OBSERVED

Shillong, March 15, 2013: World Consumer Rights Day was observed in the Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, which attended by Government Officials, NGOs, students and teachers on 15th March 2013. The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Supply, West Jaintia Hills also joined hands with the rest of the world in creating awareness to consumers about their rights.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills and President of the District Consumer forum, Mr. P. S Dkhar said that if the consumers are well aware of their rights and the sellers or the producers their responsibility none would be deprived of their rights therefore a mutual consent between the consumers and the producers or sellers is needed to protect the rights of the consumers.

He informed that about 47 cases have been registered in the District Consumer Forum upto March this year.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that any deprived consumer can logged their grievance in plain paper and cases can be settled in one sitting or within three months without being dragged into legal tangle.

Mr. S.S Syiemlieh, ADC, West Jaintia Hills while chairing the function reminded the gathering that any problems encountered by the consumers with regard to goods and services have the right to redress their problems to the District Consumer Forum.

Dr. B. Plain also spoke on this occasion and the vote of thanks was delivered by G.S Nongkhlaw, Deputy Director of Supply, West Jaintia Hills. A short play was also put up by the students of North Liberty Higher Secondary School and song by G. Passah.

2 DAY MINI HEALTH MELA AT KUMLIGAON

Shillong, March 15, 2013: The Department of Health and Family Welfare, West Garo Hills, organised a two-day Mini Health Mela under National Rural health Mission (NRHM) at Kumligaon village near Ampati in South-West Garo Hills on 14 and 15 March, 2013.

Inaugurating the mela as Chief Guest, South-West Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Ram Singh urged the local people to grab the benefits being provided by the medical and health department under various schemes.

During the inaugural function, Dr. C J M Sangma, Jt. Director of Health Services and the District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills, Tura, highlighted the benefits being given under various schemes like Megha Health Insurance Scheme, Janani Sishu Suraksha Karyakram, Meghalaya Maternity Benefit Scheme. Dr. Sangma also said that such health melas are organised in such places where normal health facilities are not available.

Earlier, Dr. Meenakshi Sangma, Additional DM&HO, West Garo Hills welcomed the gathering while Dr. Debojit Sangma, Medical and Health Officer, Ampati, proposed the vote of thanks.

During the mela, besides plays and shows performed by the team from Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, various competitions also were organised.

MASTER TRAINERS TRAINING ON APICULTURE AND HONEY PROCESSING

Shillong, March 15, 2013: The Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Meghalaya, Shillong organized a day long Master Trainers’ training on Beekeeping and Honey processing under Apiculture Mission at the Conference Hall of District Commerce & Industries Centre, Dakopgre, Tura.

It may be mentioned that Apiculture is one of the nine missions under Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Promotion programme (IBDLP). The Master Trainers’ training programme was held to upscale and promote Apiculture as an organised industrial enterprise through technology, capacity building and marketing intervention.

Delivering the Inaugural address, Chief Guest, A C Marak, ADC & Project Director, DRDA, West Garo Hills, Tura said that officers should acquaint themselves to new technology and methods and fully equip themselves before training the bee farmers. He believed that Apiculture Mission will benefit the villagers as naturally produced honey bee is difficult to get. He said that the Apiculture Mission has received the right start with the Masters’ training.

In the Keynote address, Mr. I Z Wreang, Functional Manager, DCIC, Jowai, said that Beekeeping is a living industry. He informed that bees help in maintaining the ecological balance through their pollinating service. He also informed that the traditional method of beekeeping in Meghalaya by rearing bees in hollow wooden logs is crude and destructive therefore there is a need to enhance the method through scientific method. The temperature and the rich flora of Meghalaya provide immense scope for bee keeping and honey production he added.

The training was attended by DCIC officers from Baghmara, Williamnagar, Jowai, Nongstoin, Shillong and officers representing Meghalaya Khadi & Village Industries Board. Later in the technical sessions resource persons gave presentations on Methods of Beekeeping, Harvesting of Honey, Apiary Management, Pollination by bees and other related topics.

TRAINING ON MANAGEMENT, CAPACITY BUILDING DEVELOPMENT HELD AT RRTC, UMRAN

Shillong, March 15, 2013:- Three days Capacity Development Training for JFMC Members on Management, Processing and Value Addition of NTFPs & Income Generating Activities in Meghalaya organized by the Office of the District Forest Officer, East Khasi Hills District was held at RRTC, Umran, Ri Bhoi District on 14th March 2013.The Chief Conservator of Forest Mr. C.P. Marak attended the inaugural function as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Marak lauded the organizers for holding such a useful training programme. He said that the main objective of the training is to discuss the management, processing and value addition of important non-timber forest product based income generating. He said that one of the characteristic features of the training is the striking feature of the underdeveloped economy in the country. India is suffer from the setback of poverty and the state of Meghalaya is lone of its constituent part fall in the underdeveloped sector.

Marak also said that the underdeveloped state produce and export raw materials and import finished products which is a striking features of a the under develop state. He informed that the process of exporting raw materials and importing finished product in the state cause the increase of poverty. In this case, people do not have sufficient income instead.

He also said that in the forestry sector lots of innovative schemes come and reached the resources such as the flora and fauna, agriculture, sericulture etc. Although, the state have potential yet it is not fully utilized. Further, Mr. Marak said that 2/3 of the population depend on agriculture and live in rural areas, but could not meet with the demand. Hence, he urged that agriculture alone is not sufficient for bringing up our economy and thus need for diversities to break poverty .He also said that capacity building development is to ensure the people to become an entrepreneur or to form an entrepreneur organization such as SHGs to combat poverty and to increase the economy by empowering as an entrepreneur. One must have the ability to balance the account and to have a plan to maintain the management, he added.

Lastly, he hoped that trainees would be benefited a lot and earn some profit to sustain the economy of the state. Earlier, Mr. A. Lyngdon, IFS, CFSF & Environment, Shillong delivered an introductory speech while Mr. S. A. Nongsiej, DFO, CEO, East Khasi Hills , Shillong proposed the vote of thanks.
