29TH IASLIC NATIONAL SEMINAR

The 29th IASLIC National Seminar organized by the Central Library, NEHU, Shillong in collaboration with the Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Kolkata was inaugurated on 15th March 2023 by Dr. W.R. Kharlukhi, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha who graced the programme as the Chief Guest at the Multi-Use Convention Hall, NEHU Campus, Shillong in the presence of Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU and other dignitaries.

Dr. F.R. Sumer, University Librarian, NEHU and Organizing Secretary extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, invitees and all the participants. A welcome song presented by the Research Scholars of the Department of Library and Information Science, NEHU set the right tone for the seminar. Shri. Abhijit Kumar, General Secretary, IASLIC gave a concise introduction of the theme of the seminar, followed by a formal address by Prof. Sanjay K. Singh, Vice President, IASLIC Zone 5.

The Chief Guest Dr. W.R. Kharlukhi, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha released the Seminar Souvenir and inaugurated the 29 th IASLIC National Seminar extending his best wishes for the success of the programme. He informed about a Museum to be established in Garo Hills and propose that technical advice is to be sought from the Central Library, NEHU, Shillong to further the objective. He also advice Central Library, NEHU to propose a project to the Department of DoNER, Government of India to established a Digital Archive on the knowledge of Meghalaya and the North Eastern states of Meghalaya which will reap in great benefit to the State and he region as a whole which will also have a positive impact of the tourism industry.

Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, in his capacity as the Chairman of the programme, welcomed the dignitaries, invitees and participants and delivered the Chairman’s Remarks. The IASLIC Special Award was presented to Smt. T. Padmavathi, Pr. Tech Officer, FOSTIS Library CSIR-Central Food Technol. Res. Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru 20, India in recognition of her as renowned and meritorious serving library professionals.

The Inaugural Programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. (Mrs.) J. J. Thabah, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, NEHU, Shillong. To raise a concerned about the ongoing environmental issues tree saplings were planted outside the Multi-Use Convention Hall by the dignitaries present.
