TRAINING PROGRAMME TO BE HELD

Shillong, March 18, 2013: The Employment Officer, Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, Shillong will be conducting 14 days training programme free of cost for the unemployed Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribe candidates preparing to appear for the written examination for Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2013 to be held on 14th April, 2013. The examination is conducted annually by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment of gazette and non-gazette staff in various Central Government departments.

The 14 days training will commence from 21st March 2013 and conclude on 11th April 2013 excluding the 27th and 29th March, being state holidays.

Competent resource persons from reputed institutions of Shillong will be part of the training and will give lectures on subjects as prescribed in the syllabus such as General Awareness, General Intelligence, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension and miscellaneous subjects.

Candidates willing to attend the training can register their names at the office of the Coaching-cum-guidance Centre for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, Shillong, opposite St. Margaret School, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

SOCIAL WELFARE MINISTER MET STATE WOMENS COMMISSION

Shillong, March 18, 2013: The Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Smti. Deborah C Marak met the members of the State Women’s Commission to discuss issues pertaining to frequent atrocities and crime against women and children on 18th March 2013 in the Meghalaya Secretariat Conference Room.

In view of the rising cases of crime against women in the state, the Minister Smti Deborah Marak is geared to deal with such cases. The days where women and children were respected in the society can no longer be found these days, said the minister. She reiterated that something is wrong with the society and insisted that the Commission members should try to find a solution as soon as possible before the matter goes out of control.

Smti Deborah Marak extended her full support to the Women Commission for solving this problem and urged the Commission to find out the root cause of all these problems.

Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, Smti T Phanbuh asserted that the traditional culture of the society has been forgotten due to the influence of the western culture. She also said that the presence of wine shops in and around the educational institutions adds to the problem.

Smti G R Marak, Member of the Commission stationed in Williamnagar narrated the recent rape incident of Williamnagar which she felt that proximity to coal belt and free flow of money in the area, many school dropouts and insurgency problems are few reasons causing such problem. She suggested for sensitizing awareness on sexual harassment even in schools and wherever necessary.

The meeting decided to hold a Conference on Crime and Violence against women and children in Williamnagar on 26th March 2013. The Conference will be attended by members of NGOs, Church Leaders, Headman of Localities, School Heads, and District Administration to discuss matters related to rise in crime and violence in the society and its redressal. An Action Plan for curbing and tackling issues concerning women will be also discussed in the conference.
