ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON ERI SILK PRODUCTION

The office of the District Sericulture Officer (DSO), in collaboration with the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus, organized a one- day “Capacity Building Program-cum-Workshop on Eri Silk Production : Empowering Livelihoods in Meghalaya” at the conference hall of the office of the DSO at Williamnagar on 19 March where Albert G Momin, ADC, was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest urged the eri silk rearers to be active in their activities so that they will be able produce more thereby increasing their earnings. Dr. Sasikumar, Nodal Officer, Incubation Center, (LBI-MSME Incubator), Tura NEHU Campus, spoke at length on the importance and benefits of eri silk production.

The District Sericulture Officer, Sanre G Momin, highlighted the benefits of eri silk rearing and informed that the cost of silk cocoon at the Govt. rate currently is Rs. 700 per kilogram and urged the eri silk rearers to increase their products to increase their earnings. Earlier, the Skills Meghalaya in collaboration with its training partner, the District Sericulture Officer, East Garo Hills, conducted a one-day Skill Training on Spinning, Gicha Making, Natural Dye and Weaving at Williamnagar on 18 March.
