CM LAID FOUNDATION STONE OF VENDRAME INSTITUTE OF RURAL TRAINING AND ANIMATION AT MAWPDANG CM LAID

Shillong, March 2, 2012: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today laid the foundation stone of the Vendrame Institute of Rural Training and Animation at Mawpdang, Shillong in the presence of the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr Charles Pyngrope who is also the MLA of the area.

It may be mentioned that the Institute is being established by the Selesian Congregation of Don Bosco in honour of Fr Constantine Vendrame, an Italian priest who had worked in the Khasi Hills from 1924 to 1967.

The main objective of the insititue is to provide job oriented skill to the youth of the area, agricultural training to the local farmers, education to school drop outs, provide awareness on social issues among others.

The institute will be looked after by the Don Bosco Reach Out in collaboration with the local dorbar of Mawpdang.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mukul said that such an institute will augment the efforts of the Government in ensuring livelihood in the rural areas. He said that the institute will transform the whole approach towards providing livelihood assistance to the people.

Dr Mukul said that the State Government would like to partner with such institutes so as to develop a society of skilled entrepreneurs and all possible support will be provided by the Government. He said that the institute is in line with the programme of the government in its efforts of providing livelihood opportunities to the people through the Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Programme.

Dr Mukul assured the people of Mawpdang to provide assistance in the areas of Agriculture and particularly in road connectivity. Among others who spoke on the occasion were the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr Charles Pyngrope and the Archbishop Dominic Jala.

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON SOCIAL AUDIT UNDER THE MGNREGS OF MAWPHLANG C AND RD BLOCK

March 2, 2012: The Block Development Officer and Programme Officer, Mawphlang Community and Rural Block has informed that the Awareness Campaign on Social Audit under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for all the 66 AECs of the 181 out of 182 VECs of the Block will be held on 12th March 2012 at St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School Hall, Marbirsu form 10 am onwards.

MOCK DRILL ON EARTHQUAKE AND FIRE IN CIVIL HOSPITAL, SHILLONG

March 2, 2012: The Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that the District Administration will carried out rehearsal for Mock Drill on Earthquake and Fire in Civil Hospital, Shillong on the 5th March 2012 and the actual Mock Drill on 10th March 2012 from 9 am onwards in both the days. In this regard, the District Administration requests the citizens not to panic and also to cooperate in the whole exercise to make the programme a success one.
