ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON CRIME AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN HELD

Shillong, March 22, 2013: Meghalaya State Commission for Women in collaboration with Social Welfare and Health and Family Welfare, Department organized an orientation Programme on matters relating to crime and violence against women and children, for Medical Officers and Police Personnel at State Resource Centre, Conference Room Civil Hospital, Shillong on 22nd March 2013. In her inaugural speech Mrs.Phanbuh said that issue on crime against women and children are rising. Violence against women and children explode anywhere, anytime and within any economic class. Violence can take the form of threats, verbal abuse, battering, rape and murder. It is an escalating pattern of coercive behavior which includes physical, sexual and psychological assault. To change the mindset of the people, it should revive the people on traditional values and educate on it, she added.

The topics for the programme are Speech on Gender and Power relation, Speech on forensic data collection in a clinical setting, Role of police with special emphasis on Crime against Women, and Law relating to Women and Child.

NOTICE

Shillong, March 22, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District has informed that in the interest of security, manufactures, stockiest, dealer or issued by the construction agencies to the contractor and all licensee for sale/ use of explosive are directed to report in regards to the stock, sale and use of explosives within 10 days from the date or the notice and further all license for sale/ use of explosive are to meet the L. G. M kharmih, EAC, I/C Arms/ explosive during the said period for verification of documents and license /related records. Failure to comply with the same may result in cancellation of the license.

JEEVAN RAKSHA PADAK SERIES OF AWARDS, 2013

Shillong, March 22, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs had instituted an Award designed “Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards, 2013” for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a person in incidents like drowning, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines.

The awards will be given in three categories Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Jeevan Raksha Padak.

Intending individuals from East Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government of the Award are required to send their nominations to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong on or before the 15th July 2013.

PROHIBITION OF EMPLOYMENT OF CHILDREN UNDER 14 YEARS

Shillong, March 22, 2013: The Deputy Labour of West Khasi Hills District has issued an Order prohibiting engagement of children below the age of 14 years in certain employment as laid down in the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. This includes occupation connected with automobiles workshop and garages, mines (underground and underwater), work relating to selling of crackers and firework in shops with temporary licenses, handling of toxic or inflammation substances or explosives. The act also prohibits children under 14 years of age to be engaged in work relating to cement manufacture including bagging of cement, automobiles repairs and maintenance, fabrication work, saw mill, stone breaking and stone crushing, tyre making, repairing, rethreading and graphite beneficiation, utensil making, polishing and metal beneficiation, extraction of slate from mines, rag picking and scavenging and working in restaurant, hotels, dhaba.

Contravention of the provision of section shall be punishable by imprisonment of not less than three months which may be extended to one year or with fine of not less than Rs. 20,000/- or both.

Whoever has been convicted of an offence under section 3, commits the same offence afterwards, he shall be punishable with imprisonment of not less than six months which may extend upto two years.
