In his letter of regret to the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Lapang said “it would have been a great honour and privilege on my part to be present on this memorable occasion of your country amidst the people of Bangladesh, to share moments of happiness and celebration of the National Day. However, due to the ensuing Budget Session of the Legislative Assembly in my State, where my presence is required, I regret my inability to be in Dhaka to participate on this joyous event”. Dr. Lapang further said that “Bangladesh is one of the dearest sisters of India and when its people fought for liberty, the heart and souls of the people of our country remained steadfast for the success in their Endeavours. I, for myself, remember how thousands of people laid down their lives because of which your country is breathing with pride this day and albeit we should never forget their sacrifice. Remembering all the great souls responsible for independent Bangladesh and all current leaders who are taking the country ahead towards a developed and successful State, I on my part would like to salute and convey my heartiest congratulations and good wishes on this great day. Today we are miles apart but I want to reach across the miles and say that my heart is with the people of Bangladesh in a special way on this memorable day of your country”. |
