DISTRICT LEVEL MEDIA CERTIFICATION AND MONITORING COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED

Shillong, March 24, 2014: The District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee for East Khasi Hills District is constituted with immediate effect under the chairmanship of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills. The members of the committee include the Additional Deputy Commissioner, the Sub-Divisional Officer (Election) Sohra, Representative of the Central Government I & B Ministry Official in the District, President Shillong Press Club and the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relation, Shillong as member secretary.

The terms of reference of the committee is to preview scrutinize and verify all advertisement by individual contesting candidates or political parties before inserted in the electronic media, to issue certificate of advertisements, to examine complaints/issues of paid news, to scan all media for suspected cases of paid news, monitoring of political advertisements in electronic media, monitoring of political advertisement in other media in relation to candidates, either overt or covert from expenditure monitoring angle, advertisement in print media, checking if the name and address of the publisher and the printer is carried on election pamphlets, hand bills and other documents as required under section 127 A of the RPA Act 1951 and to submit a daily report to accounting team with copy to Returning Officer and Expenditure Observer in respect of each candidate in the prescribed format.
