RNI BRANCH OFFICE TO BE SET UP IN NORTH EAST

A Branch office of the Registrar of Newspaper of India (RNI) will be set up in the North Eastern Region. This was declared by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunchi in Parliament recently.

It may be mentioned that this has been one of the demands of the Northeast Newspaper Society during Mr. Dasmunchi’s visit to Guwahati recently. Other demands included revision of DAVP advertisement rate, increase of DAVP advertisement quota for NE region newspapers, special package of advertisement for insurgency prone NE region and transport subsidy for newsprints of NE region.

WORLD TB DAY OBSERVED

As part of the observance of World TB Day, the State Tuberculosis Office in collaboration with the District TB Centre Shillong organized a marathon on the theme “I Am Stopping TB” where 160 runners participated enthusiastically. Prizes were distributed to the winners in a function held after the run.

The Day was also being observed at Sohra, Mawphlang and Nongmynsong.

NATIONAL AWARD FOR CHILD WELFARE AND NATIONAL CHILD AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

The Government of India invites application for conferring the National Award for Child Welfare to give recognition to individual and institution who makes contribution towards welfare of children and the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement to give recognition to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding calibre in different fields such as academics, arts, culture and sports, etc. This was informed by the Director of Social Welfare, Meghalaya, Shillong.

Interested individuals and NGOs may contact the concerned District Social Welfare Officer for detailed information and application forms. The last date of submission of application is on April 30, 2008.

DISTRIBUTION OF WHOLE-MEAL ATTA

The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District has informed the public consumers of the District that Whole-meal Atta for the month of December 2007 and January 2008 (Regular) has been released and will be distributed through the Fair Price Shops at the scale of 0.877 kg per head at the rate of Rs. 7.00 per kg.

Any non supply or overcharging of rate by the Suppliers should be brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District with full details.
