THEATRE SHOW BY STAGE FUSION

Shillong, March 25, 2010: With the partial support of the Directorate of Arts and Culture, Meghalaya, Stage Fusion will stage their fourth Theatre Production, an English suspense thriller, “Road to Hell” on April 9, 2010 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. The show shall be preceded with a one day workshop on stage-acting and allied issues for the youth which will be organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong and Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Meghalaya, Shillong.

Stage Fusion is the only English Theatre Group from the North East of national repute. Their past three production “Where is the Star” in 2007, “Double Trouble” in 2008 and “I am only Human” in 2009 were runaway successes. All these plays which were staged on several occasions at Guwahati, Shillong, Kolkata, Tezpur and Dimapur were very well received and appreciated both by the audience and media.

WORLD TB DAY OBSERVED AT TURA

Shillong, March 25, 2010: The District TB Control Society (DTCS), West Garo Hills, Tura, observed World TB Day on March 24, 2010. In a function held at its office premises, Mr. K C Momin, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

While commending the District Tuberculosis Control Society for its efforts to check and control TB in the region, Mr. Momin in his address called upon the public to maintain proper hygiene in order to liberate oneself from tuberculosis.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dr. Malti K Marak, District Medical and Health Officer cum Vice Chairman DTCS, West Garo Hills, shed some light on the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) initiated by the Government and said that this programme has been implemented on October 2, 2003 and since then the District has achieved the WHO target of 85 percent cure rate and 75 percent case detection rate. She also informed the gathering that till date, 4316 numbers of positive cases have been registered and treated, where 2976 cases are considered very dangerous and is attributing to the spread of the disease to other members of the society.

Dr. M A Sangma, while enlightening the public on the relationship between tuberculosis and HIV disease, said that once the human immune system is weakened by any one of the mentioned disease, the afflicted person is susceptible to hosts of other diseases. So he encouraged the public that if anyone afflicted with any of the diseases, they should get themselves screened mainly for either HIV or TB. He also informed till date, 25 cases of HIV positive were detected in Garo Hills.

Other highlight of the celebration was a short play on stigmatization of TB afflicted persons in the modern society which was enacted by the students of Martin Luther University, Tura Campus.

SSC EXAMINATION

Shillong, March 25, 2010: The Coaching cum Guidance Centre for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled tribes Shillong will conduct a 10 (ten) days Training Programme for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates preparing to appear in the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2010, to be conducted by the Staff Selection Commission on May 16, 2010.

The Training Programme will commence on April 26, 2010. Candidates interested to attend may register their names at the office of the Employment Officer, Coaching cum Guidance Centre for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Manor House, Upland Road, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

CENSUS OPERATION TRAINING COMMENCES AT BAGHMARA.

Shillong, March 25, 2010: The three day training on Census Operation under Baghmara Block commenced today, March 25, 2010 at Rangku Memorial Girls Secondary School, Baghmara. The training to the census enumerators/supervisors of South Garo Hills will be imparted by Mr. Fahen Sangma, Mr Arun Kr Dev and Mr. Chingchang Sangma.

Mr. P M Sangma, ADC and District Census Officer while narrating various do’s and don’ts to the trainees, also informed the gathering that the release of Development Funds of the Central Government greatly depends on the reports submitted by the census operators so he appealed to the enumerators to perform their duties with full dedication, sincerity and commitment.

Mr. Jha, the Census Officer to the Government of Meghalaya, Department of Census also spoke on the importance of census. Stating that the Government’s Five (5) year Plan is based on the data collected by the enumerators, Mr. Jha stressed that the census should be taken as mandatory. This census will be registered at the National Population Register through which the Multi-National Identity Card/Citizenship Card will be produced, added Mr. Jha.
