BOOKS RELEASED

Shillong, March 24, 2011: Meghalaya Governor, Mr. R S Mooshahary today released two books entitled No Hill State No Rest and Incredible Tribes of India authored by the former Union Minister, Mr. P R Kyndiah at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Shillong. Also present on the occasion were the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers, Mr. B M Lanong and Mr. R Lyngdoh, Minister for I and P R, Mr. A T Mondal, Minister for Forest and Environment, Dr. R C Laloo, Minister for PHE, Mr. P Tynsong, Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr. C Pyngrope besides others.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Mr. Mooshahary lauded the commendable effort put in by the author adding that the books will be of immense help to the people of the State and generations to come. Mr. Mooshahary also recalled Mr. Kyndiah as one of the frontline leaders in the struggle for self governance for the people of the North Eastern Region which eventually led to the reorganization of the North East States in 1971 and subsequently the Statehood for Meghalaya. He hoped that the exemplary efforts shown by Mr. Kyndiah would inspire each and every individual to aim for new heights irrespective of age. In view of the culture, traditions and customs, the spirit and standard of tribal people accommodated the heritage and lifestyle, adapted non violence in bringing Meghalaya to the statehood without bloodshed said Mr. Mooshahary. Therefore, he urged upon the citizens of the State to shun the path of violence and bring about the spirit of brotherhood.

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma, in his speech, said that the two books authored by Mr. Kyndiah will be a treasure for the government and to the book lovers and hoped that every individual take the opportunity to be acquainted with the Hill State Movement.

Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. B M Lanong and Speaker Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Mr. Charles Pyngrope also spoke on the occasion.

39 MOTOR ACCIDENT CASES SETTLED IN TURA

Shillong, March 25, 2011: Thirty nine cases of motor accident claims were settled and a total amount of Rs. 39.54 lakhs awarded as compensation to the victims,victims’ families at a Conciliatory Session held recently at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, West Garo Hills District. The Conciliatory Session was to settle the Motor Accident Claims pending in the Court of the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills pertaining to United India Insurance Company, Tura. Altogether, 48 cases were put up for settlement during the session.

Out of 39 cases settled, 8 were death cases and 31 injury cases which were pending in the court for over 10 years.
