Press Release No. 27/25 CALLED FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION TO FIGHT TUBERCULOSIS Joining in observance of World Tuberculosis Day, the office of the District Tuberculosis Control, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai observed the day at District Library Mynthong, Jowai under the theme, “Yes, We Can End TB: Commit, Invest Deliver”. Additional Deputy Commissioner Smt. DV Lyngdoh attended the programme as Chief Guest. Speaking at the event, Smt. D V Lyngdoh, highlighted the importance of early detection and awareness in the fight against tuberculosis. She emphasized that while TB is both preventable and curable, timely diagnosis and proper treatment are essential to control the spread. Addressing the students, she encouraged them to take care of their own health by maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and a healthy lifestyle. She reminded them that staying healthy is essential for achieving their dream and aspirations. Smt. Lyngdoh also urged the community, healthcare workers and educational institutions to work together in spreading awareness about TB. She reiterated the importance of early detection and regular checkups to control the spread of the disease. Reaffirming the message of the World TB Theme, "Yes, We Can End TB" and encouraged everyone to contribute to a TB-free future. Dr. Ns.C. Tariang, MOTC Jowai TU, Panalair, Jowai, emphasized the urgent need for accelerated effort in eliminating TB, reinforcing the theme as a strong call to action. She acknowledged that, despite India’s goal to eliminate TB by 2025, many cases still persist in the district, making complete eradication unlikely this year. However, she stressed that with strong commitment, investment and effective interventions, significant progress can still be achieved. Dr. Tariang highlighted the importance of early detection, timely diagnosis, prevention and treatment in combating TB. She stressed that preventing TB requires a combination, infection control, protection. She informed, that by implementing these measures effectively TB transmission can be minimized, bringing us closer to elimination. She thanked the dedicated teachers, students and the orphanage team for their commitment to raising awareness, who have joined in the observation of the day, reaffirming that collective is essential in the fight against TB. Dr. L. Marbaniang, Nodal officer, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), East Jaintia Hills, spoke about the symptoms and stressed the importance of early diagnosis in controlling the disease. The office of the District Tuberculosis honored the health workers of both West and East Jaintia Hills for their dedication and contribution to TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and for creating awareness. The Awards in the Best Treatment supporter was awarded to Smt. Baita Lapasam from Barato PHC and Smt. Deciple Pychiang from Sutnga CHC. The Best Lab. Technician was awarded to Shri Margeet Lyngdoh from Dawki PHC and to Smt. Wanrika Sutnga from Khliehriat Civil Hospital. The Best performing ASHA was awarded to Smt. Jenitris Laamre from Barato PHC, Smt. Amalia Lakiang of Lookyrwiang UHC, and Smt. Kimeri Bareh of Jalaphet HWC, Sutnga CHC. The Best MLHP was awarded to Smt. Darihun Kahrjahrim of Barato PHC and Smt. Sumarlin Laloo, of Iongkaluh, HWC, Pamrapaithlu PHC As part of the event, the District Tuberculosis center, Jowai organized Drawing competition based on theme, Ms. Sanly Chyrmang from the Children’s Home Girls, Jowai won the first prize, while the second prize was jointly awarded to Ms.Sanwaka Challam from Children’s Home, Jowai and Nangbah Nangjngi from Children’s Home, Jowai. The third prize was also shared between Resolve Dhar, from Chilliangraij SSA School, Jowai and Ibakordor Hadia, Dulong SSA UP School. Best Placard awarded to Loompyrdi Iongpiah, UPS, Second Pohmusniag Up School and Third Prize Dulong SSA Up School. A rally was also organized as part of the World TB day observance to raise awareness about tuberculosis, which started from Dulong playground, Dulong, Jowai and concluded at District Library Mynthong, Jowai. Students marched with banners and placards.Teachers, doctors and healthcare workers joined the students in the rally. |
