CM INAUGURATES NEIMA ORPHANAGE BUILDING

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today inaugurated the Orphanage Building of the North East India Mission Association (NEIMA) at Sahsniang village, Jaintia Hills District. The inaugural meeting was presided over by the local MLA, Mr Mihsalan Suchiang. Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr F R Kharkongor was also present on the occasion.

The orphanage was constructed at a total cost of Rs 5 Lacs out of which Rs 2 lacs was allotted through the CM’s Development Fund and Rs 3 lacs through the SRWP scheme and it was implemented by the Laskein C&RD Block. The land for the building was donated by Mrs Biloris Shadap. At present twenty orphans are accommodated in the building and are provided with free food, clothing and education.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang said that NEIMA is a symbol of hope to the people especially to the underprivileged. He said that the orphans of the area are being taken care of by NEIMA and this humanitarian work is commendable. He lauded the NEIMA for its dedication and determination and he said that it has cited good examples to the people to be generous and open hearted.

Dr Lapang said that the State Government will find out ways and means to extend assistance to NEIMA in its endevours to provide succour to the orphans.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr F R Kharkongor, Vice President NEIMA, Rev. NWP Warjri and the Sr. Executive Secretary KJP Synod Sepngi, Rev S I Iawphniaw.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang met the District Heads of different Government departments and also the police officers of the District at Circuit House conference hall, Jowai. The Meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, Home, Mr W M S Pariat, DGP, Mr B K Dey Sawian and the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr F R Kharkongor.

While addressing the district officers and the police officers of the district, Dr Lapang stressed on the importance of work culture stating that it is of utmost importance for the Officers to ensure that the people gets maximum benefits and that their expectations are fulfilled. While appreciating the performance of the State Police, Dr Lapang said that they can contribute effectively by supporting the development process in terms of efficient maintenance of law and order. He said that the police department should gain the confidence of the people and that the people should feel secure in the presence of the law enforcing agency.
