Press Release No. 30/25 TALAWIAR Martin Luther Christian University MLCU successfully hosted TALAWIAR A Narrative Festival, an event that celebrated the vibrant oral traditions of Northeast India. Organised by the School of Languages and Cultural Communication SLCC, the festival brought together storytellers, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts for a day of immersive storytelling and artistic performances at All Saints Hall. The invocation to the event, performed by the students of the SLCC, featured Northeast chants that set a soulful tone for the day. One of the key highlights of the festival was the Reader's Theatre by Damenshan Goverson Hynniewta, which blended music and narrative, captivating the audience with its theatrical storytelling. The festival’s storytelling session was a compelling showcase of Northeast India’s diverse folklore traditions. What made the experience diverse yet unifying was the different languages and dialects in which the stories were beautifully narrated by storytellers from different walks of life. The audience was captivated by the various folktales being shared in a setting that portrayed the warm hearth of a home. The event also featured a multisensory storytelling performance by Careen J Langstieh which provided a visually and emotionally rich storytelling experience. Adding to the artistic celebration, Desmond Rimaki Sunn’s Stories in Song beautifully merged music and storytelling, demonstrating how melodies can convey powerful narratives. Talawiar reinforced MLCU’s commitment to promoting indigenous narratives and fostering a deeper appreciation for Northeast India’s linguistic and cultural heritage. |
