Press Release No. 218/17 ADVISORY ON CYBER CRIME Social Media poses many threats to the society. Easy access to Internet connection has become a very dangerous platform for social media users as most of the users are using social media in a negative way. Recent cases have come to the notice of the Police (CID) Department wherein personal videos of some persons were downloaded, edited into a vulgar one and then went viral on Whatsapp, Youtube, Instagram, etc. This is an offence under Information Technology Act, 2000. Therefore, the Additional Director General of Police (CID), Meghalaya, has warned social media users not to engage in such illegal activity and if anyone is found involved in the circulation of such videos, etc, he/she will be liable for punishment with imprisonment upto 7 years. |
Press Release No. 219/17 ASHOKA CHAKRA SERIES OF GALLANTRY AWARDS The Government of India will announce the Ashoka Chakra series of Gallantry Awards and these awards are given in three categories namely, Ashoka Chakra (awarded for most conspicuous bravery or some act of daring or pre-eminent valour of self-sacrifice), Kirti Chakra (awarded for conspicuous gallantry) and Shaurya Chakra (awarded for gallantry). The Award will be announced on Independence Day, 2017. Intending individuals from East Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government for the Award are required to send their nominations to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before the 8th April, 2017. Press Release No. 220/17 BSNL MEGHALAYA INTRODUCES NEW VALUE ADDED SERVICES UNDER THE NEXT GENERATION NETWORK State owned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced new value added services under the Next Generation Network (NGN). It is to be noted that the NGN is one network which transport all the information and services under one platform. The new VAS introduced includes the All India IP Centrex, Multimedia Audio/Video conferencing and the fixed mobile telephony. Under this new VAS, a user can set up closed user group across the country with both fixed line and mobile users of BSNL as members of the group and Audio/Video conferencing can be done PAN India with 30 users. The introduction of the fixed mobile telephony, allows the customer to make mobility incoming and outgoing calls using his NGN landline number just by installing a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application in his Smartphone mobile handset or in the laptop. P G Nirmal, General Manager Telecom, District Meghalaya informed that under the NGN Phase I rolled out, 4000 lines capacity exchange has been commissioned from the Shillong Main Telephone Exchange and further expansion is planned under Phase II. He also added that BSNL Meghalaya has introduced a new service where the customer who wants to take a new landline/broadband/FTTH connection will need to give a missed call to 9485145678 and the BSNL personnel would call back and do the needful and also on the same number, the public can speak directly to the General Manager on all working Wednesdays between 3pm and 4pm. |
