Press Release No. 129/10 GOVERNOR TO INAUGURATE WORKSHOP AT TURA Shillong, March 31, 2010: The Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. R S Mooshahary will inaugurate a three-day workshop titled “The Green Hills of our Forefathers: Revisiting the Vision” to be held at Tura, West Garo Hills District from April 8-10, 2010. The workshop will also be attended by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Ms. Agatha Sangma who will deliver the keynote address. This has been informed by the Chief Coordinator, Workshop-II, Prof. U R Dutta. The workshop is being organized by the Divya Jeevan Foundation as part of its mega project, Project Resurgent India, where the participants will present the visions, thoughts and actions of some visionary leaders of Garo Hills and examine their relevance to current processes of modernization. There will also be a special panel to highlight the problems faced in and vision for Garo Hills from the perspective of youth. In addition to the presenters from Garo Hills, some eminent constitutional experts, scholars and social activists from across the country will also attend the workshop as observers. It may be mentioned that the workshop has emerged from a three-day round table conference organized by the Foundation on the topic “Sixty Years of North East – Revisiting the Experience” held at Shillong in 2008. Press Release No. 130/10 STATE LEVEL MONITORING COMMITTEE MEETING ON PMEGP The State Level Monitoring Committee on Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) had its fourth meeting in the Committee Room. Addl. Secretariat Building, Shillong under the Chairmanship of Mr.Arindam Som, Commissioner & Secretary (Industries), Govt. of Meghalaya. Secretary, C & RD, State Director, KVIC, Shillong, Director of Commerce & Industries, CEO, MKVIB and representatives from NABARD,SBI, MCAB, MRB also attended the meeting. The Committee reviewed the progress of PMEGP in the State of Meghalaya as well as decided the Action Plan for the next year 2010-2011. Sri Babul Mandal, State Director, KVIC apprised the Committee that till date 364 projects involving bank finance of Rs.16.38 crores has been sanctioned by various bank branches throughout the State creating employment opportunity for 2184 persons during the year 2009-10. Projects sanctioned under PMEGP scheme carries 25-35 percent margin money (central subsidy). Till date margin money amount of Rs.4.64 crores has already been disbursed by the nodal bank branches. Another 200 proposals are under various stages of sanction with the financing bank branches throughout the State. The performance of PMEGP schemes in the State of Meghalaya is highest amongst the North Eastern States in comparison to target allotted, which has been appreciated by the authority. Encouraged with the performance of the State Central office, KVIC, Mumbai has transferred margin money fund of Rs.1.50 crores from neighbouring State Assam to Meghalaya. The Commissioner & Secretary (Industries) while appreciating the initiatives taken by the Implementing Agencies and the Banks has advised them to keep up this tempo so that 100 percent utilization of margin money fund provided by the Central Government through the Ministry of MSME for generation of employment opportunity in the State of Meghalaya can be achieved. |
