INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY OBSERVED

The Social Welfare Department through District Social Welfare Office, East Khasi Hills District Shillong in collaboration with Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Shillong (MSCW) along with support Group for women, Shillong (SGW) observed International Women’s Day on the 8th March, 2017 at Aijingshai Secondary School Mawiiong Umjapung, Shillong on the theme “Bold’ for Change”. Smti Theilin Phanbuh, Chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Shillong (MSCW) graced the function as the Chief Guest. Other officials present in the function are Smti S. Rynga Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Adviser of Lympung ki Seng Kynthei, Health Department, representatives of different Organizations working for the Welfare of women, the Headman and Secretary of Mawiong Umjapung, older and young women. Smti Theilin Phanbuh, in her speech explained the empowerment of women and stressed on the participation of women in the society. She expressed her heart felt grief regarding the rising of crime against women and severe punishment should be given against such perpetrators. She urged all the women to come forward and seek help and support to fight against the problems faced by them. She emphasized that the Commission is always ready to lend a helping hand to women who are in need, adding that women are precious jewels of the family. She urged all women and also men to work together to uplift the society as a whole. On this day, awareness is given on schemes available for women and her family from various departments of the Government and different Organization working for the welfare of the women.
