DISBURSEMENT OF NATIONAL OLD AGE PENSION

Shillong, March 10, 2011: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) at the rate of Rs. 250/- only per month for the period of one month with effect from 1st August to 31st August, 2010 will be disbursed as per arrangement.

Beneficiaries residing within the urban areas are requested to contact the Nazir, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Shillong, Room No. 211 during office hours. Detailed information can be obtained from the Development Branch, Room No. 314 of the DC’s office, Shillong. Beneficiaries from the rural areas are requested to contact the office of their respective BDOs.

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

Shillong March 08, 2011: The Department of Social Welfare join hands today along with the International Community in celebrating the 100 years of International Women’s Day on March 08, 2011. Various programs have been organized in all the District Headquarters of the State initiated by the District Social Welfare of the concerned Districts in collaboration with the NGOs, SHGs and other members of the community. The theme for this year’s celebration is Equal Access to Education, Training, Science and Technology, Pathway to Decent Work for Women

In East Khasi Hills District, the Day was celebrated at the Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra.The Chief Guest at the function was Mr. J.A.Lyngdoh, Minister for Social Welfare.

Speaking at the function Mr. Lyngdoh informed the gathering that, the present Government has a number of schemes for the welfare and protection of women which the concerned officers should implement meticulously for the welfare of Women and children. He also said that parents have the responsibility of guiding their children and providing them with equal opportunities in the field of education, employment and other opportunities. Expressing his concern about the growing social problem of early marriage which is detrimental to the health of the mother and her children Mr. Lyngdoh opined that, parents should give proper guidance and advice in this matter. He also advocated that all humans whether man or woman are born equal, so there should be no discrimination in any sphere of life.

Mrs. Sussana K.Marak, Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Dr.Rica Lamar, Vice Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Mr.T.Chyne, MDC Sohra also spoke on the occasion.

The Snohktilang SHG and Dr.Fenella Nonglait were also felicitated at the function in recognition to their services towards the cause of women.
