DIGITAL DESIGN LABS FOR LIVELIHOOD GENERATION INAUGURATED

Secretary, NEC, Shri K.Moses Chalai, IAS inaugurated the project namely Digital Design Labs for Livelihood Generation today here at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong. Present in the event were Smt. Sherry Lalthangzo, Economic Adviser (E and M), NEC, Shri S Sundar, MD, AMTRON, Guwahati, Fr. Sagi Stephan of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, Shri TanungJamoh, Director (S and T), NEC, ALIMCO officers and other Senior Officers of NEC. This project is being funded by NEC at a cost of about Rs. 5 crore combined with ACC Institute, Senapati, Manipur. The Centres developed will be providing training of use case deployment for technologies namely Graphic Designing and Animation with high end Softwares. Later on, it will move towards 3D printing, 5G applications, digital designing of training, instructional videos, 3D Animations in different languages including local North Eastern Languages. On the occasion, Shri Leihaothabam Johnson Sharma spoke, who is one of the engaged instructor and mentor. He is a renowned Digital Designer who took part in well known Hollywood, Bollywood projects and famous TV Programmes. Currently he is devoting in digital learning with well known Institutions including from abroad. He shared on the wide range of opportunities the project will bring to the youths of NER.

The day marks as one of the modest initiatives in NER towards Digital and 4.0 Industry journey which will open up to huge scope and opportunities ahead in Digital space in the days to come. NEC along with the Ministry of IB is starting a training programme in March 2023 namelyAnimation 3D courses for 100 youths of NER in Delhi. Very soon, NEC along with the Ministry of DoNER and AMTRON will take up 3D Printing project in the 8 NER States, which would be a revolutionary move. Also, along with AMTRON, NEC will also take up 5G Applications training in the 8 NER States, which will be up and running in the next 2 or 3 months again to open up multiple opportunities as 5G is already underway. NER is already quite challenged in terms of economic transformation and job opportunities particularly for the youths. Today’s initiatives is in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister when he addressed the NEC Plenary in Shillong in 2016 and emphasized the need for economic transformation in the NER region from time to time.

FIRST MEETING OF THE NEW EDUCATION MINISTER WITH THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The State Education Minister, Shri Rakkam A Sangma in his first interaction with the senior Education Department’s Officials has reiterated the need to improve the educational sector through fast-tracking Government Elementary Teachers recruitment, contexualise State Curriculum Framework(SCF) in the context of the National Curriculum Framework(NCF) and in line with the New Education Policy 2020, as well as capitalizing on the current initiatives of the State Government on infrastructure upgradation, improvement of quality education through child-tracking system under Vidya Samiksha Kendra and streamlining teacher’s salary.

The State Education Minister, Shri Rakkam A Sangma also informed that the letter of request for exemption of CUET in respect of the State of Meghalaya from conducting the CUET for the State’s under graduates Institutions for the current academic session has been dispatched through the Chief Minister’ Office.

In addition, he also stated that the request letter for extension of the last date of registration for CUET to 31st March 2023for the State of Meghalaya has been forwarded to the Director General, NTA, New Delhi, citing reasons of the recent Legislative Assembly Election which resulted in the delay of State Board examination wherein, several rural-based students are facing problems of applying/registration in the CUET portal due to remote location, internet connectivity and inaccessible terrain challenges.

The Minister made a brief visit to the Directorate of Educational Research and Training and exhorted all the State Education Team to work tirelessly for furthering the quality of education in the State.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY OBSERVED AT TURA

The International Women s Day with the theme DigitALL Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality was celebrated at District Auditorium, Tura today where Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura Swapnil Tembe and Retired Secretary and Director Rural Development I R Sangma graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe said that women participation can be seen in all sections of workforce and added that in the recently concluded Assembly elections more than 50 percent women had performed polling duties efficiently including the Static Surveillance Team, Flying Squad, and also acknowledged the contribution of all other officials.

Further, stating that 90 percent achievement of SHG’s under NRLM schemes in rural areas, he mentioned that the government is implementing many different women specific schemes such as women scholarship schemes, health related schemes for women, reservation, safety of women, etc in different departments are available. He also expressed his gratitude for the presence of young and dynamic entrepreneurs in the region and expressed hope that they are the guiding star for many people of the area.

Mentioning about the opening of the SHG retail outlet at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises he urged everyone to visit the stall and helped the SHG’s by buying their products. Moreover, with related to health concerns of the women in the region, he reminded everyone to have balanced diet eat healthy food in order to stay healthy and prevent anemia and also stressed on the institutional delivery of women in the area.

During the function, Certificate of Appreciation was also awarded to the Nine Young Entrepreneurs from both urban and rural based areas who shared their successful stories to other womenfolk of the region which will help them to motivated and follow their footsteps in future. The entrepreneurs have also kept their items both for display and sale during the programme. These entrepreneurs are Esmeralda S Marak, Lecturer cum Baker (Sugar Sprinkles), Rupatchi Cheran Makeup Artist, Semada Marak Seven Cherry Accessories, Laura Momin, Blossom (Gift Hamper Service) to name a few.

The Retired Secretary and Director Rural Development I R Sangma, District Social Welfare Officer, Tura Hemaritha Sangma, Secretary, Mother’s Union, Tura Sume Chandola B Sangma, CDPO, ICDS Project, Selsella, M T Sangma and District Mission Manager, MSRLS, Tura Michelle Ch. Momin were among others who spoke during the function. The programme was organized by the District Social Welfare Office Tura, in collaboration with Mothers Union, Tura, Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society and Child Development Project Officer,Tura.
