PHE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES 5K AND 10K WATER FOR PEACE RUN FOR WORLD WATER DAY CELEBRATION 2024

The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer, organized a 5K and 10K run on the 16th of March, 2024, as part of the World Water Day Celebration 2024. The run took place in and around the adjoining areas of Polo, with the start and finish point at J.N Stadium, Polo Grounds, Shillong. The theme for this year’s World Water Day set by the UN is ‘Water for Peace’, and this event held today aims at spreading awareness about the pivotal role of water in fostering stability and prosperity around the world. This initiative marks the beginning of a series of activities leading up to the main event on March 22, 2024.

Shri. Syed Md. A. Razi, Commissioner and Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He ceremoniously flagged off the Marathon, accompanied by Smt B.M Lyndem, Chief Engineer of PHED, Meghalaya, and other officials.

It is worth noting that the Chief Engineer, PHED, Smt B.M Lyndem also participated in the run, leading by example to spread awareness on the theme “water for peace” to come together and take part in activities that encapsulates the notion that equitable access to clean and safe water can play a crucial role in fostering peace and stability within and among communities.’

Through such collaborative efforts, we strive towards a future where every individual has access to clean and safe water, fostering peace and prosperity for generations to come.
