Shillong, March 18, 2010: In pursuance of the directives given by the Election Commission of India, The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District has informed that the draft Electoral Roll for 32 Nongstoin (ST), 33 Rambrai-Jyrngam (ST) and 34 Mawsgynrut (ST) Assembly Constituencies have been prepared with reference to 1st January, 2010 as qualifying date.

A copy of the said roll together with the said list of amendments have been published and will be available for inspection at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer, Nongstoin and in the office of The Block Development Officer, Mawshynrut for the Mawshynrut Constituency. The publication of the draft electoral roll is on 10 March, 2010, verification in each and every household will be conducted from the 6 April to 20 April, 2010 and the final electoral roll will be published on the 12 May, 2010.

The above mentioned dates from 6 April till 20 April, 2010, the Booth Level Officer appointed by the office will be visiting each and every household for verification of the names available at the electoral roll, in case of any error or relocation with regard to any individual they should be brought to the office and get it rectified by the Booth Level Officer.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON OPPORTUNITIES IN PLASTIC INDUSTRIES CONDUCTED

Shillong, March 18, 2010: The Central of plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Guwahati in association with NEDFI and the District Industries Centre, Tura organised an Awareness Programme on Opportunities in Plastic Industries for the unemployed youth of the North East Region at the District Auditorium, Tura under the sponsorship of Ministry of DoNER.

Dr. Milton Sangma, Pro-VC, ICFAI graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest while the function was chaired by Shri. Rajiv Kumar Das, Faculty, CIPET. Speaking in the occasion, Shri. Rajiv Kumar Das stated that though there was immense potential for the growth of Plastic industries in the North East Region the region still depended solely on plastic imported from outside the region. Stressing on the need to set up plastic industries in the region so as to accommodate and deliver employment to the vast number of educated but unemployed youth of the region. He further informed that the plastic industry was a 5,40,600 crores industry and that in the northeast alone 1250 plastics industry could be set up. He also stated that the growth of the industry in the Northeast can play an important role in generating employment to the region’s educated unemployed youth.

Dr. Milton Sangma stated that the entrepreneurs of the region should welcome welcome the plastic industry and grasp the opportunities associated with it. With the scope of employment becoming narrower everyday its high time entrepreneurs took their own future in their hands.

The technical session conducted by the resource persons from CIPET, Guwahati dealt with various formalities in which the participants could get into the institute for a formal training on Plastics manufacturing.

Students and faculties from ITI, Tura, NEHU, Tura Campus, Tura Poly Technique, ICFAI, entrepreneurs from in and around Tura and officials from DIC, Tura were also present at the awareness programme.

DR LAPANG MEETS UNION HOME MINISTER

Dr. D.D. Lapang, Chief Minister, Meghalaya called on Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister in New Delhi on 17th March 2010.

Dr. Lapang discussed the issue of on-going problems between Borders Security Force and Bangladesh Riffles at Muktapur border in Meghalaya with the Union Home Minister. He raised the concern of civilian population living in that area for decades, which is now being claimed by Bangladesh Riffles. He further requested that the cordial atmosphere now prevailing between the two Governments should not be allowed to be disturbed. Union Home Minister informed that he has already taken up the matter with concerned authorities and further assured that such incidents will not be allowed to recur.

Dr. Lapang also raised the issue of continuation of Suspension of Operations (SOO) against Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC). Chief Minister apprised the Union Home Minister of the outcome of recent talks held at Shillong among the representatives of Union Government, State Government and ANVC. He also mentioned about the sentiments of the people of Garo Hills in this regard, which have already been conveyed by Dr. Mukul Sangma, Dy. Chief Minister, Meghalaya.

Chief Minister informed about the significant improvement of the law & order and internal security situation in the State due to SOO being in force. Home Minister was of the view that there have been instances during the currency of SOO that do not conform to the conditions laid down. The Government of India would like to continue talks with ANVC and work for their rehabilitation provided the peace and law & order is strictly maintained. He assured the Chief Minister that he will look into the matter of extension of SOO. In this regard he requested Chief Minister to convey formal views of the State Government in the matter.

GOVERNOR FLAG OFF RED HORNS BICYCLE RALLY 2010

Shillong, March 18, 2010: As part of the Awareness Campaign cum Disaster Prone Area Mapping, a Bicycle Rally under the aegis of Red Horns Division was flagged off today by the Meghalaya Governor Mr. Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary from Raj Bhavan Gate amid a civil military ceremony.

Speaking on the occassion, Mr. Mooshahary said that the bicycle rally aims at reaching out to the unemployed youth of rural Meghalaya and spread awareness among them regarding the various opportunities, ways and means of getting recruited in all ranks in the Army. This noble act of the Army has provide a platform for direct and close interaction between the Army and the local population to attract the youths to join the arm forces which are one step towards solving the problem of unemployment in Meghalaya.

The team members will also carry out mapping of the hilly terrain areas for effective disaster management as they travels through the most remote and interior localities of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Ri-Bhoi District, informed Mr. Mooshahary.

It may be mentioned that the 20 members Red Horns Bicycle Rally team led by Capt Gopala Krishnan will cover an arduous journey of 445 Kilometers in seven days. The team is scheduled to reach Mairang today, and there after proceed to Nongstoin on 19th March, Riangdo on 20th March, Patharkhmah on 21st March, Nongpoh on 22nd March, Umsning on 23rd March and finally return to Shillong on 26th March, where it will be flagged-in in a grand civil military ceremony.

The Rally team members will also interact with ex-servicemen and war widows in Meghalaya and will address their concerns regarding the entitlements and benefits due to them in the 6th Central Pay Commission.

PRESTONE INAUGURATES MAIRANG WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

Shillong, March 18, 2010: The long awaited Mairang Water Supply Scheme was finally inaugurated today at Khadsawphra Sports Association Stadium by Meghalaya Minister for Public Health Engineering, Mr. P Tynsong in the presence of the local MLA and Co-Chairman of the State Planning Board, Mr. Metbah Lyngdoh and other senior officers of the PHE department.

The Scheme which started in March 2006 and funded by the Ministry of DONER under the NLCPR Scheme has been constructed at a total cost of Rs. 806.61 lakhs. The Water Supply Scheme (WSS) would cater to the water requirement of around 26,500 residents spread around 19 localities under Mairang township.

It comprises of three 100 HP pumps at Kynshi river, water treatment plan and 245 platforms around Mariang. Already 515 households have availed domestic water connection by the scheme.

In his inaugural address as the Chief Guest, Mr. Tynsong lauded the efforts of all concerned for which commissioning of this Scheme has been made possible. “Cooperation of the local residents with the Government has made this possible”, he said with regard to the donors who parted way with their land for the purpose of the WSS. He urged upon the people to maintain government facilities as their own.

Presiding over the function, local MLA Mr. M Lyngdoh said that it was a memorable day for the people of Mairang and it was one step further towards the all round development of the area.
