WORLD TBS DAY OBSERVED IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS

World Tuberculosis Day carrying the theme “Yes! We can end TB” was today observed in East Jaintia Hills District at a programme organized by the office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, East Jaintia Hills District at Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat wherein Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri A. Baranwal attended as Chief Guest in the presence of District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO), Jaintia Hills, Dr. E.B.V. Laloo, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills District, Dr. D. Shylla, other health officials, ASHAs, teachers, students and others.

In his speech as Chief Guest of the programme, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri A. Baranwal congratulated the officials of the Health Department for their relentless efforts in organizing such programmes in the district which will help in spreading awareness to people on the harmful effects of Tuberculosis.

Shri Baranwal also highlighted on the importance of early detection of TB cases and regular check-ups in order to enable the concerned agencies to eradicate TB in the district even as he urged upon the gathering to spread awareness to their family and community members with regards to TB as it is not a disease that people can ignore. Further, he also underscored the importance of community involvement in order to enable the concerned agencies to eradicate TB in the state and the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills, Dr. E.B.V. Laloo in her speech during the programme highlighted on the connection of the theme of World Tuberculosis Day, namely, “Yes! We can end TB” with the importance of community involvement to combat against this disease. She also acknowledged the services offered by Nikshay Mitras of the district who help provide assistance to TB patients in the district through distribution of food items, etc.

Other highlights of the programme include awards given to Shyrwang and Tlangmoi Villages under Saipung C&RD Block for achieving the status of TB free villages, a song performed by students of Little Star Secondary School, Khliehriat and a short skit performed by ASHAs on the signs and symptoms of TB and the importance of early detection.

WORLD TB DAY OBSERVED IN EAST GARO HILLS

The District Tuberculosis Officer, East Garo Hills, observed the World TB Day with the theme, “Yes We Can End TB” at DRDA Hall-I, Williamnagar, on 26 March with ADC Reuben Ch Momin as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Momin deliberated on how to prevent the disease and urged the gathering to grab the treatment opportunities to eliminate the disease.

On the day, the District Tuberculosis Officer DTO), Dr. CPM Sangma, delivered the key-note address while Dr. SR Marak, Senior Medical and Health Officer (MO-TC), DTC Williamnagar, delivered the welcome address.

During the day, food baskets to the ongoing TB patients were distributed and the Nikshay Mitras also were felicitated.

The DTO also conducted quiz competition for the school children
