SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS RELEASED

The Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya & Chairman, Meghalaya Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, Shillong has notified that the Meghalaya Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board as a means to help children of the beneficiaries registered with the Board in pursuing their studies has released scholarship grants 1086 nos. with a total benefit amounting to Rs. 56,88,600/- (Rupees Fifty six lakhs eighty eight thousand six hundred ) only for the year 2017-18 and 2018-19. The process of sanction for 2019-2020 is going on and would be completed soon. He has further informed that the above sanctioned amount will be distributed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts before the end of the financial year.

EXTENSION OF CLOSURE OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

The Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department in a notification issued on 30th March, 2020 has informed that in order to comply with the Government of India lockdown order, to prevent the possibility of an outbreak and spread of the COVID-19 (Corona-Virus) and as a precautionary measure to safeguard the citizens of the State, the Education Department has further extended the closure of all Educational Institutions in the State from 1st April, 2020 till the 15th April, 2020.

ADVISORY TO WHOLESALERS, DITRIBUTORS AND RETAILERS OF DIFFERENT CATEGORY OF FOOD ITEMS

With the State Government announcing relaxation for shops of the essential food items, there will be a huge rush of consumer to purchase the food items and both sellers and purchasers having limited time to check the purity, standards, date of manufacturing etc of the food items, the Commissioner of Food Safety, Government of Meghalaya has reiterated that providing safe food to the consumers is a priority of the Government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Commissioner of Food Safety, Government of Meghalaya has issued an order advising all concerned wholesalers, distributors and retailers of different categories of food items packaged, bottled, lose in the state of Meghalaya to strictly ensure to see that no food items which are adulterated, substandard, damaged, expired are offered for sale to the consumers and avoid any action being taken under the provisions of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.

The Commissioner of Food Safety has directed all Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety of Shillong, Tura and Jowai and Food Safety Officers of all Districts to ensure Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), practices such as hand washing protocols, proper cleanliness of frequently touched surfaces and ensure physical distancing of minimum 1 metre and discourage overcrowding while selling.

ORDER

The Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya in an order issued on 30th March, 2020 has informed that Shri Harish C. Chaudhary, Additional PCCF (Wildlife) and the Chief Wildlife Warden, Meghalaya has been authorized to issue curfew and vehicle passes to officials and staff of the Forest and Environment Department. In another order, Smti B. Mawrie, Registrar General, High Court of Meghalaya has been authorized to issue curfew and vehicle passes to officials and staff of the High Court of Meghalaya.
