NGH DCC DISCUSSES DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES FOR THE DISTRICT

Shillong, March 8, 2013: The District Coordination Committee (DCC) of North Garo Hills in its meeting on March 6, 2013 discussed and deliberated on strategies for the overall development of the district through concerted efforts of all the line departments.

The fledgling district, which was created less than a year ago, covers a total area of 1094 sq km with a population of 17,1838 people.

The Deputy Commissioner, Mr. W. Khyllep, who chaired the meeting, urged upon the district heads of offices to prepare roadmaps for developmental initiatives in their respective departments and plan accordingly to make North Garo Hills the most progressive and vibrant district in the State of Meghalaya. The strategic location of the district close to the Assam-Meghalaya interstate border, its proximity to the airport and the upcoming railway station at Mendipathar all add up as bonus points for the development of the district, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked all the line departments including the Community & Rural Development blocks to organize awareness programmes on the schemes being implemented by them for the benefit of the people and also urged upon the departments to submit success stories on Central schemes and projects implemented by them. He also stressed on the need to maintain punctuality in attendance in all the offices in the district.

Referring to the growing number of militants coming back to the mainstream, Mr. Khyllep requested the line departments to extend support to those seeking to lead normal lives by mean of departmental schemes after due clearance from the district Superintendent of Police.

Preparation of District Disaster Management Plan, formation of district level committee, survey of government lands, problems of stray cattle were among other points discussed during the meeting.
